Java Technical Lead – Spring Boot & KafkaLocations: Irving | Tampa, Florida | New Castle, DelawareSalary: $110,000–$130,000 + bonus and benefitsWe are seeking a hands-on Java Technical Lead to help design and deliver scalable, business-critical applications for a leading global financial services organisation.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Java engineer who combines strong backend development and distributed-systems knowledge with the ability to lead technical design, review code and mentor other developers.The roleYou will:Design and develop scalable services using Java, Spring Boot and microservices architecture.Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews and code reviews.Build event-driven solutions using Apache Kafka.Design REST and GraphQL APIs that integrate cleanly with modern frontend applications.Develop and optimise Oracle SQL and PL/SQL queries, schemas and batch-processing workloads.Diagnose database performance issues, locking problems and complex transactional behaviour.Apply patterns such as Domain-Driven Design, Event Sourcing, Circuit Breaker and Saga.Evaluate existing applications and identify opportunities for refactoring and modernisation.Support responsive user interfaces built with React, Angular and TypeScript.Mentor engineers and clearly communicate architectural decisions and technical trade-offs.Promote quality throughout the development lifecycle through effective testing and automation.Required experienceStrong commercial experience with Core Java, including concurrency, multithreading, memory management, generics and collections.Advanced knowledge of Java 8 or later.Extensive hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the wider Spring ecosystem.Production experience designing and developing Kafka-based applications.Understanding of Kafka partitioning, replication, retention and delivery guarantees.Strong Oracle SQL and PL/SQL skills, including query optimisation and execution-plan analysis.Experience designing microservices and distributed, event-driven systems.Previous experience leading technical delivery, design reviews and code reviews.Experience mentoring or supporting other software engineers.Strong understanding of RESTful API design and system integration.Additional experienceReact.js, Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3 or Bootstrap.Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.Cloud deployment and infrastructure automation.Selenium, Java-based test frameworks and API/UI automation.GraphQL and contract-first API development.Experience within banking, payments or another high-volume transactional environment.This position would suit a Java Technical Lead, Lead Java Developer or hands-on Java Solution Architect who enjoys remaining close to the code while shaping the technical direction of complex enterprise applications.Apply today for further information and a confidential discussion.
