Job Title: Senior Accountant to ControllerContractor would like to bring this person on to replace Controller in the next year or two. Location: Temecula areaCompensation: $80,000 to $120,000 base salary, depending on experienceIndustry: ConstructionEmployment Type: Full TimeAbout the CompanyI'm working directly with a growing contractor performing large scale projects throughout the region. The company operates with a strong field driven culture and is expanding its accounting and finance team to support continued growth. The business performs a significant volume of prevailing wage and public works projects and requires strong construction accounting discipline, particularly around compliance, job cost tracking, and cash flow management.Position SummaryThe Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the company, with a heavy emphasis on construction accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and compliance documentation. This role requires a hands on accountant with at least five years of experience in a construction environment who understands job cost accounting, lien releases, certified payroll support, and cash flow management tied to project billing cycles.This position works closely with project managers, operations leadership, and external partners to ensure accurate financial reporting, timely collections, and proper handling of compliance releases.Key ResponsibilitiesManage full cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable for construction projectsProcess vendor invoices, verify coding to job cost and general ledger, and manage payment runsPrepare and issue customer billings, including progress billings, retention, and change order billingTrack and manage lien releases, conditional and unconditional waivers, and compliance documentationSupport prevailing wage and public works compliance documentation as neededReconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accountsMaintain accurate job cost reports and support cost to complete trackingAssist with monthly close, journal entries, and financial statement preparationMonitor cash flow and support collections efforts with project managersCoordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams regarding payment status and releasesSupport external CPA firm with audits, reviews, and year end reportingIdentify and improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting accuracyRequired QualificationsMinimum of five years of experience in construction accountingDirect experience handling accounts payable and accounts receivable in a construction environmentHands on experience managing compliance releases, lien waivers, and public works documentationStrong understanding of job cost accounting and construction billing cyclesExperience working with project managers and operations teamsProficiency with accounting software and ExcelHigh attention to detail and strong organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced construction environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience working for a construction companyExperience with prevailing wage projectsExperience with job cost systems such as Viewpoint, Sage, or similar platformsAssociate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldWhy JoinGrowing contractor with strong backlog and leadership teamHigh impact role with visibility across the businessOpportunity to help scale accounting operations as the company growsCompetitive base salary of $80,000 to $120,000 depending on experienceBenefits package including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan
