Senior Java Software Developer

Overview In this role you will design, build and maintain scalable backend services while contributing to full-stack efforts when needed. You will architect APIs, drive high-performance applications, and mentor junior engineers, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. The position emphasizes cloud-native systems, automated testing, and modern CI/CD practices to deliver reliable software. You will operate in an Agile environment and tackle production issues with long-term fixes. This is a hands-on role at Leidos, shaping scalable, secure software solutions for mission-driven outcomes. ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop scalable backend services, APIs, and microservicesCreate and maintain testing architecture and system designBuild, test, and maintain high-performance, secure applicationsCollaborate with product managers, designers, customers, and engineers to deliver featuresWrite clean, well-tested code following best practicesReview code and mentor junior engineersOptimize performance, scalability, and reliabilitySupport CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructureParticipate in Agile ceremonies and PI planningTroubleshoot production issues and implement long-term solutionsAct as a technical expert across multiple project assignments Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience4-8 years (or 2-6 years with Master’s Degree) of professional software development experienceStrong backend development experience in Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate (including native queries)Experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architecturesStrong automated testing experience (end-to-end, regression, integration, etc.)Relational databases knowledge (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.)Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)Experience with agile project management tools (Jira, Confluence)Familiarity with Docker and KubernetesExperience with Git and CI/CD pipelines (Gitlab)Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system scalabilityStrong problem-solving and analytical thinkingCommitment to quality and engineering practicesExcellent communication and collaborationJavaSpring BootHibernate
