The patient acuity ranges from very critical to step down level.Patients ServedThis position is responsible for the following age groups of patients: pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.DutiesPossesses knowledge of and maintains competency in professional nursing principles, practices, concepts and procedures as applied to the care of critically ill patients, the RN takes at least one critical care related course per yearMaintains current knowledge of critical care diagnostic and treatment techniques such as chest tube insertion, central line placement, intubations and hemodynamic monitoringAble to recognize normal cardiac rhythms and any deviations from normal. Maintains competency in basic 12-lead ECG interpretationMaintains skill in operating and monitoring complex equipment such as mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitors, etc.Utilizes the nursing diagnosis/nursing process to assess, identify issues/outcomes, plan, implement and evaluate the plan of care. The plan of care is family centered, age-appropriate, developmentally and culturally relevantConducts ongoing assessments as determined by the patient's conditionConducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient's immediate condition or needs to take immediate and decisive patient-focused actionDevelops plan of care that is individualized for the patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare teamPerforms appropriate treatments as ordered by the physician in an accurate and timely mannerPerforms therapeutic nursing interventions as established by the individualized plan of careProvides individualized patient/family education customized to the patient and his/her familyDocuments patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing interventions and progress towards problem resolution.
