ProStart Affiliate Instructor, School of Hospitality
Denver, COMarch 31st, 2026
School Of Hospitality Affiliate FacultyThe School of Hospitality at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for temporary, part-time affiliate faculty teaching positions.
Responsibilities include teaching 3+ credit hours in subject areas such as ProStart, Culinary, Introduction to Hotel, and Introduction to Event Management. The role involves working with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff, demonstrating the ability to effectively infuse technology into coursework, and being available for consultation with students.
An affiliate faculty member's duties may include teaching assigned classes in person or online, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading student work, providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner, addressing student questions consistent with university, college/school, and department policies, and providing academic support to students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment. The ability to adapt and learn new modes of instruction is highly encouraged. Candidates need to be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.
Required qualifications for an adjunct/affiliate faculty member in SOH include completion of a master's degree in the field in which the faculty member is assigned to teach; or an associate's degree or higher in a hospitality-related discipline plus professional experience that is current at the time of hire, that has been substantial in terms of duration and level of responsibility, and that clearly links to the field in which the faculty member is expected to teach. If the Master's degree is outside the field in which the faculty member is assigned to teach, there is an increased expectation of substantial professional work experience in the discipline.
Preferred qualifications include nationally recognized certificates and licenses relevant to the field in which the faculty member is assigned to teach.
Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester-by-semester basis. Affiliate faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University's benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment. Qualified candidates will be expected to teach in person/on campus upon hire.
The final salary is based on the number of credit hours assigned at a rate determined by university policy. For more information, please view the pay rates under the School of Hospitality (SoH).
Candidates must apply online through MSU Denver's career site. Complete applications will include the following materials: curriculum vitae or resume, cover letter, copies of all unofficial transcripts, and a list of three professional references with contact information. Official transcripts will be required of the candidate selected for hire.
