Job Overview
The City of Whitehall is accepting applications from qualified applicants to fill a full-time vacancy for the position of Police Officer.
The position performs a wide variety of duties connected with general police patrol work including investigation, the enforcement of laws and ordinances in the City of Whitehall on an assigned shift and the provision of various types of assistance. Assigned duties are performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations including the City’s Personnel Policy. Specific instructions are received from, and the work is regularly checked by the Police Chief. However, a police officer is required to exercise initiative and judgment when faced with emergency situations.
The position requires a high school diploma and an associate degree, or 60 associate degree level credits or higher from an accredited college or university. A candidate that is certifiable or certified with training standards is preferred.
The successful candidate must hold a valid Wisconsin driver’s license; and be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, background check and psychological evaluation.
Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all legal standards related to law enforcement procedures
Foster strong relationships with community organizations, local government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote trust and cooperation.
Stay current on law enforcement innovations such as surveillance technology and first aid procedures like CPR training to enhance departmental effectiveness.
Qualifications
Certifiable by LESB Training and Standards Bureau including High School diploma and Associate’s Degree in Police Science or 60 college credits in Police Science and 520 hours Recruit Training or current requirement; knowledge and experience necessary to perform the functions of Police Officer
Must maintain the ability to possess and carry a firearm
Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques, report writing standards, and law enforcement best practices.
Demonstrated ability to handle conflict management situations with tact and professionalism.
Knowledge of police science, organization and operation of safety, criminal investigation and the various functional services utilized in police operations
Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to operate police vehicles safely under various conditions.
Certifications in CPR and first aid are highly desirable

Pay: $32.20 - $34.00 per hour
