An employee in this class performs a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks. Work is performed in accordance with an established routine and will be inspected regularly by shift foreman to assure that proper standards of cleanliness are maintained. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesWash and dust furniture, shelves and other office surfaces Vacuum carpeted floors Dry and wet mop floor and stairs Empty trash and recycling cans, replace trash can liners Clean restrooms and replenish all restroom supplies Wash windows Strip, wax and buff floors using a power buffing machine Move furniture Shovel snow from sidewalks and step s around county buildings Report necessary repairs to foreman Perform related work as required Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to learn the materials, methods and practices used in custodial workAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to exercise care in the use of various cleaning supplies and materialsSufficient physical strength to lift heavy objects and perform essential job functions that may require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching and other physical exertionsMust possess valid driver's license Minimum Qualifications2 (2) years of experience in the cleaning and maintenance field LUZERNE COUNTY IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY & AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER I. Medical InsuranceThe coverage begins for the employee the on the first of the month following the first full 30 days of full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Cost to the employee to participate in the plan varies by the coverage selection and the number of dependents; and may be subject to collective bargaining agreement. The employee may also elect to opt out of the County's medical insurance if proof of coverage is provided. Under this arrangement, the employee is provided with an annual opt out payment.II. Vision and PrescriptionThe coverage begins for the employee on the first of the month following the first full 30 days of full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Contributions may vary, subject to collective bargaining agreement.III. Dental CoverageThe coverage begins for the employee on the first of the month following the first full 30 days of full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Contributions may vary, subject to collective bargaining agreement.IV. Life InsuranceA $50,000 life insurance policy is afforded to full-time employees, unless specified differently in a collective bargaining agreement. It remains in effect as long as the employee is actively employed and terminates upon resignation or retirement.V. RetirementAll full-time employees and part-time employees working more than 1,000 hours per year qualify for Luzerne County retirement benefits, in which employees must contribute 5% of their earnings, and may choose to add to an additional voluntary contribution, not to exceed an additional 10%.
