Kong API Developer
Job Title: Kong API DeveloperLocation: Malvern, PA – HybridEmployment Type: ContractAbout the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Kong API Gateway Engineer to support security remediation, platform optimization, API gateway development, and production operations. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in API gateways, containerized environments, testing, troubleshooting, security patching, and performance validation, with prior Kong experience strongly preferred.Key ResponsibilitiesEvaluate changes for technical impact and risk before implementation.Configure, enhance, and optimize Kong API Gateway environments.Develop and execute comprehensive test suites covering Kong configurations, plugins, and integrations.Apply and validate security patches for Kong Gateway and related components.Troubleshoot issues across the API gateway and upstream services.Conduct load testing and performance validation for Kong configurations.Provide production support and resolve gateway-related incidents.Develop new Kong plugins, configurations, and integrations as required.Collaborate with clients and internal teams during incident response and troubleshooting.Maintain clear technical documentation for configurations, troubleshooting procedures, testing, and operational processes.Mandatory Skills & QualificationsStrong hands-on experience with API Gateway technologies, preferably Kong.Experience working with Kong Gateway configurations, plugins, and integrations.Experience with containerized environments.Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across application and infrastructure stacks.Experience with comprehensive testing, validation, and performance/load testing.Experience applying and validating security patches.Ability to support production API gateway environments.Experience with net-new development as well as maintenance and enhancement work.Strong understanding of Agile development principles.Excellent client communication and collaboration skills.Self-directed approach with strong attention to testing, quality, and risk.Ability to work effectively in a “you build it, you run it” environment.Preferred SkillsPrevious Kong API Gateway experience.Experience developing custom Kong plugins.Experience with API security and enterprise API integrations.Experience tracing issues from API gateway through upstream services.Strong performance optimization and capacity testing experience.Experience supporting external vendor and partner API integrations.Why Join UsWork with cutting-edge technologies in a collaborative environmentProfessional growth opportunities and training supportInclusive, equitable, and respectful workplace cultureAbout NetworkPediaNetworkPedia is a certified women-owned technology and talent solutions company, providing IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, managed services, and specialized recruitment across North Americas and beyond.
