The SharePoint Developer – SME provides expert-level technical services in the design, development, implementation, and support of Microsoft SharePoint Online solutions within the Department of the Interior’s Enterprise Collaboration Services environment. This fully remote position supports enterprise-wide collaboration for all DOI bureaus and offices.
Duties to include:
Provide expert technical services in developing custom workflows and APIs in SharePoint Online to meet advanced customer service requests and enterprise requirements.
Develop new SharePoint solutions and support legacy and strategic systems across multiple SharePoint and content management projects.
Design, develop, and deploy advanced automation solutions using Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate, PowerBI).
Implement and maintain publishing sites, custom applications, templates, branding, master pages, page layouts, and client-side rendering components.
Architect, design, and enhance collaboration solutions based on SharePoint Online, Dataverse, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft 365 integration services.
Manage all phases of the content lifecycle, including authoring, design, publishing, governance, metadata, and term store management.
Implement records management and sensitive information protection solutions in SharePoint Online.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 platform issues.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and government stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver scalable, secure solutions.
Provide Tier 2 expert SharePoint administration support and contribute to change/configuration management processes.
Design and deploy provisioning governance tools, auditing capabilities, and site owner consoles.
Maintain documentation for all custom development, configuration, and architectural design in accordance with DOI standards.
Requirements:
Clearance: Must be able to obtain a favorably adjudicated Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) as required for DOI contractor personnel.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or 4 years of equivalent experience.
Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years developing enterprise SharePoint solutions (SME-level responsibility per SOW).

Microsoft Power Platform (PowerBI, Power Automate, PowerApps)
Change and Configuration Management
SharePoint Online publishing and design frameworks
MS best practices for enterprise organizations
Full content lifecycle management (authoring ? publishing ? governance ? archiving)
SharePoint branding and design management
Custom code development using:
PowerShell, .NET (server & client)
ASP.NET, WCF, WF, EF, C#
JavaScript, CSS, HTML5
Silverlight (legacy)
SharePoint Object Model (client & server)
Development of provisioning governance tools and auditing capabilities
Development of site owner consoles for records management and site assignment workflows
SharePoint app model and client object model programming
Web publishing frameworks, surveys, account management, content integration
Master pages, page layouts, structural components, and responsive design
Client-side rendering, JavaScript frameworks, templating technologies
Mobile-optimized SharePoint site development and channel assignment
Term store and metadata management
Records management and sensitive information protection in SharePoint Online
Database technologies including SQL Server, Dataverse, Oracle, SQL queries, and stored procedures
Server technologies including Azure Active Directory, DNS, certificates, Hyper-V
Web server deployment with IIS, AppFabric, SharePoint Online
Ability to work with Business Connectivity Services, User Stories, Web Parts, Microsoft Teams, and other M365 services
Proficiency with SharePoint Designer, Visio, Visual Studio, PowerShell automation, C#, and object-oriented programming principles
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills
Professional SharePoint or Microsoft cloud certifications, such as:
Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD)
Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)
Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)
