Senior Director, Intellectual Property Counsel

What You'll DoIn this role, you will lead the development and execution of Teradata's enterprise-wide intellectual property (IP) strategy across patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and related IP assets. You will serve as the primary IP legal advisor to executive leadership and partner closely with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams to protect, develop, monetize, and enforce Teradata's IP portfolio.Success in this role looks like aligning IP strategy with business objectives, proactively managing risk, strengthening Teradata's competitive position, and ensuring the company's IP assets are effectively governed, protected, and leveraged globally.Who You'll Work WithYou'll be a senior leader within the Teradata Law Department, working closely with executive leadership, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Go-to-Market teams. You will partner regularly with the Patent Strategy Committee (including the CTO, CPO, and CAO), manage a small team of IP professionals, and oversee outside counsel relationships worldwide. This is a highly visible, enterprise-facing role requiring strong cross-functional collaboration and executive presence.What Makes You a Qualified CandidateJuris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdictionMinimum of 15 years of intellectual property law experience, including meaningful in-house experience at a technology companyDeep expertise in U.S. patent law and practice, including patent prosecution, portfolio strategy, enforcement, and NPE/PAE riskDemonstrated experience managing global patent and trademark portfolios and outside counsel relationshipsProven ability to operate at the executive level and translate complex IP concepts into clear business guidanceWhat You'll BringUSPTO registration (strongly preferred)Broad IP expertise across patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, open-source licensing, and IP aspects of commercial and M&A transactionsExperience driving patent strategy, including invention harvesting, prosecution oversight, maintenance, divestiture, and monetizationExperience managing NPE risk, including third-party defensive programs and proactive risk assessmentAbility to counsel on branding, trademark clearance, and global trademark portfolio managementExperience supporting IP-centric transactions, licensing, and partnerships with customers and technology partnersKnowledge of open-source licensing and compliance frameworksExperience providing IP support for litigation, disputes, M&A due diligence, and SEC/public disclosuresFamiliarity with IP program technology tools such as CPI, PatSnap, or similar docketing and analytics platformsStrong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneouslyHigh ethical standards and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential mattersBenefitsPay Rate: 217300.0000 - 271600.0000 - 325900.0000 AnnuallyStarting pay for the successful applicant will depend on geographic location, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and candidate experience. Sales roles will be eligible for commission payments tied to quota achievement.
