STRUCTURED LITERACY PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FACILITATORThe Rollins Center for Language & Literacy at the Atlanta Speech SchoolThe Rollins Center for Language & Literacy is a professional development center founded in 2004 at the Atlanta Speech School, with the singular purpose of breaking the cycle of illiteracy for children who have been denied access to educational opportunity. Rollins does this by extending the science-based instruction each child receives at the Atlanta Speech School to every child through facilitation and coaching in regional schools and, globally, through the free online Cox Campus. Cox Campus (www.coxcampus.org) democratizes the sciences of healthy brain development, language, and literacy – making accredited professional coursework, content, and community free to all. We do this through an equity-based learning platform where together we build the expertise and agency needed so that every adult can play a role in helping each child find their voice and live boldly to reshape the world.Essential Job DutiesThe Structured Literacy Professional Learning (SLPL) Facilitator works collaboratively with district partners to support system-wide implementation of structured literacy practices, utilizing the components of Equitable Literacy Outcomes that are aligned with Cox Campus content and creating a plan to support:Leader Knowledge and Prioritization of Structured Literacy,Educator Professional LearningInstructional CoachingCulturally Responsive PedagogyHigh Quality Instructional MaterialsData and AssessmentMTSS and InterventionThe SLPL Facilitator’s hybrid support includes training district- and school-based leaders on best practices in structured literacy; coaching district- and school-based leaders on structured literacy practices that lead to sustained classroom implementation; data consultation on diagnostics and progress monitoring to support classroom instruction; and using coaching and student data to plan effective implementation.Other Responsibilities Of The SLPL Facilitator IncludePresenting structured literacy content at local and national conferencesFacilitating online Cox Campus community groupsCollaborating with the Cox Campus content team to create/revise structured literacy contentNavigating the features and elements of Cox Campus (including group functions, resource library, and reporting functions)Coaching ImplementationUtilizes Rollins’ coaching implementation framework to support leader knowledge and application of structured literacy practices, including: Build relationships with district and school-based leaders and educatorsCollaborate with district and school-based leaders to create an implementation plan to improve current literacy practicesSupport school leaders and coaches in conducting and administering professional development activities (including redelivery presentations for educators)Implement the coaching cycle to:Model effective instructional strategies and clearly explain evidence-based language and literacy practicesSupport through guided practice opportunitiesObserve instructional practice through classroom observations to identify strengths, areas for growth, and language and literacy prioritiesEngage partners in reflective debrief conversations throughout the coaching cycle and determine next stepsSupport district and school-level leaders in creating plans for implementation sustainabilityServe as liaison between Rollins Center evaluation specialist and client centers or schoolsReview yearly literacy data and provide recommendations to organizational leadership teams for improving literacy outcomesCreate implementation progress reports to share with partner districtsProfessional Development FacilitationFacilitate and design structured literacy professional development for educators and education leaders, ensuring best practices for adult learning theory are presentPromote research and evidence-based practices for educatorsAnalyze and compare existing curriculum practices with best practicesCreate professional learning materials, engagement activities, and supporting resources for professional development sessionsAssist in data collection for progress monitoring and needs assessmentsDeliver training sessions on interpreting student and teacher data to inform instruction, particularly progress monitoring dataResearch/Professional DevelopmentStay current on the latest research and best practices in the field of education, professional development, curriculum, and instructionEngage in ongoing professional development related to structured literacy, education, and instructional coaching
