API Support Engineer

Overview In this role you support customers, partners, and resellers building solutions with SOLIDWORKS APIs, blending development, debugging, and technical problem-solving. You will drive API enhancements, publish solutions in the knowledge base, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality API capabilities. You’ll work on diagnosing issues, validating fixes, and creating practical examples to demonstrate API usage. The role sits in the SOLIDWORKS API Support group within R&D, focused on enabling customer success at scale. ResponsibilitiesProvide technical support to partners, resellers, and customers developing solutions using SOLIDWORKS APIsTroubleshoot and debug SOLIDWORKS and partner-developed source code to identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issuesInvestigate reported software problems and document findings for internal reproduction and correctionValidate software fixes to ensure problems are resolved without introducing new issuesDocument technical solutions and best practices for publication in the SOLIDWORKS Knowledge BaseCollaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for new or enhanced API functionalityEvaluate and prioritize API enhancement ideas based on technical feasibility and customer valueDevelop detailed technical specifications for selected API enhancements with stakeholdersCreate and execute test plans for new and enhanced API functionalityDevelop sample applications and code examples demonstrating proper use of APIsReview and validate online Help and technical documentation for SOLIDWORKS APIsCollaborate within the software development team to meet project milestones and deliver high-quality solutions Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline (Master’s or PhD preferred)3-6 years of relevant work experienceStrong programming knowledge with C++Working knowledge of MFC and COM technologiesExperience with C#, VB, .NET Framework, OLE, and/or ActiveX is preferredStrong understanding of object-oriented programming, software development concepts, and application architectureExperience developing, integrating, or supporting APIs, SDKs, or software applicationsStrong debugging and troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze complex software issuesExperience with CAD, engineering software, or SOLIDWORKS is highly preferredAbility to understand existing source code and investigate issues across multiple areas of an applicationStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detailAbility to work collaboratively within a software development and R&D environmentSelf-motivated with the ability to manage priorities and contribute toward aggressive project milestonesStrong written and verbal communicationCollaboration with cross-functional teamsAnalytical and problem-solving mindsetC++MFCCOM
