The Low Voltage Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing various low voltage electrical components to include data and telecommunications cabling, fiber optics, CCTV, CATV, access control, and security and fire alarm devices and technologies. Essential Traits for Success:
Perform all aspects of installation, repair, and maintenance of low voltage systems including – data, voice, CCTV, CATV, fiber optics, access control, security, and fire alarm.
Cut and terminate cabling in jacks or terminals following established manufacturers and industry guidelines, standard, and practices
Troubleshoot defective security and telecom equipment, replace defective or worn parts, and test.
Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work site by hand, hand truck, or vehicle
Examine electronic units for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections, using hand or power tools.
Strip insulation from wire ends, using wire stripping pliers/ sheers, and attach wires to terminals, splicing,
Thread conduit ends, connect couplings, and fabricate and secure conduit using cable trays, cable racks, j-hooks, or d-rings.
String/Pull low voltage lines or cables through ducts or conduits, under the ground, or through equipment
Requisition materials, using warehouse requisition or release forms.
Low Voltage Technician’s Qualifications & Skills:
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and able to consistently follow written processes and procedures
Excellent mathematical skills are preferred
Ability to read and understand blueprints
Ability to stand, lift, maneuver weights that may exceed 50lbs.
Strong verbal communication skills
Education, Licensing & Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Active CT C6, L6, or T2 Limited Electrical Journeyperson’s License
Current OSHA 10 Certification is preferred
Active Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
