Personal Lines Account Representative

SUMMARYThe Account Representative contributes to the Agency's revenue through the sale of insurance products to new prospects and by providing excellent customer service and cross selling additional lines of insurance to existing clients in order to retain the business. The main focus of an account representative is on customer service and providing assistance to the account managers on renewals and service related tasks. This position also maintains accurate client accounts and provides prompt, efficient, high-quality service to all calls received always remembering that every call is an opportunity to sell. The Account Representative is required to have a California Insurance License for Property & Casualty Broker-Agent or Personal Lines Broker-Agent and a minimum of two years experience in the insurance industry.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSOversee, analyze and evaluate client's risksReview coverage's to ensure quality of risk placementRecommend needed changes in coverage when required due to change in exposure, marketplace and general improvement of insurance programDemonstrate an understanding of complex coverages and policy terms and be able to clearly articulate this information as neededImmediately develop proficiency in the use of agency client services computer software (e.g. AMS 360, rating programs, word processing, Outlook, etc.)Maintain up-to-date knowledge of markets, underwriting criteria and use of company specific materialsDetermine acceptability and placement, complete applications or endorsements, and collect premium when applicableHandle premium collectionActively solicit increases in limits and/or coverages or rounding out accounts through sales to clientsSolicit expiration dates for policies not written by agency.Complete AMS 360 input forms per procedural guidelinesMaintain and facilitate accurate prospect, client, company related recordsMaintain a concern for timeliness and completeness when interacting with customers, as well as agency and company personnel, to minimize potentials for error or omission claimsAssist in marketing accounts where appropriate due to relationships or product expertiseProvide required reports on a timely basisPerform other functions as assigned by management.DAILY TASKSManages day to day processing of endorsements, coverage/policy changes, evidence of insurance, and general correspondence.Document all conversations with insureds, carriers and/or other parties regarding exposures and coveragesActively seek referrals from current client base to solicit for new business prospects; follow up to generate new business using prospect database and automation system.Provide quotes to prospective clientsAnswer all incoming calls in a professional mannerReturn phone calls promptly and follow up on requestsPerform special projects at the request of designated clientsResponsible for gathering the information for the renewal of designated accounts sixty days prior to renewal.Binders and/or policy or endorsement requests are to be completed within 24 hours of date quoted to clientCollect necessary deposits, payments, arrange for binders, evidences, etc.Review updated client exposure survey information, obtain other renewal information from insured, and complete applications for designated renewal businessPrepare rewrite applications for business through companies no longer represented at least 30 days prior to renewal.Review existing accounts to determine if additional lines of insurance should be solicited and do so by mail and/or phone prior to renewalFollow up on outstanding claims and provide assistance in their resolution, as necessaryKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESAll licenses to discuss or place insurance as required by the State Department of Insurance in states where the agency functionsAggressive and assertive self-starter with the ability to influence others with demonstrated effective verbal and written presentation skillsAbility to maintain good working relationships with customers, employees, and division staffExcellent analytical, oral and written communication skillsWord processing and computer skillsAttention to detail and high level of accuracyExpected to meet monthly new business premium goals through a variety of sources: referrals, cross selling, etc.Strong organizational skillsMaintain knowledge of underwriting criteria for carriers represented by agency.In-depth understanding and knowledge of insurance terminology, documents, coverages, underwriting, rating, claims, premium billing and collection methodsAbility to use personal computer, calculator, agency automation systems and various software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and ExcelAbility to quickly learn manual systems and computer toolsAbility to work well under pressureAbility to work well both independently and as a team memberAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
