In this lead role, you will provide technical leadership, engineering oversight, and project execution support for complex mechanical systems and equipment used in large-scale EPC projects. Your expertise will directly contribute to the successful delivery of mission-critical projects supporting the U.S. Department of Energy and other federal agencies.Responsibilities and DutiesUnder general supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer, serve as an Area Lead providing guidance and supervision to engineers and designersAnalyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of advanced complexity in accordance with project requirementsDevelop and review specifications and design criteriaPerform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment, and systems; and solve technical problems of advanced complexityCoordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clientsExecute work in compliance with the Project Quality Plan and proceduresExecute work in accordance with approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselinesDevelop and review estimates, schedules, and progress reports including effort-hour estimating and staff forecastingEstablish, control, and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecastsProvide technical support associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting activities including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor submittalsProvide technical support associated with construction administration including responses to construction requests-for-information and field changesPrepare and review calculations and specifications for equipment in support of Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) developmentEstablish equipment requirements and prepare equipment data sheets for mechanical equipment including heat transfer equipment, packaged equipment, pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, and related systemsEvaluate dimensions, equipment connections, pressure profiles, heat transfer rates, and equipment performanceProvide equipment sizing and application support to project development or process teamsParticipate in material selection for equipmentDevelop and revise equipment lists, narrative specifications, equipment standards, equipment arrangement, and outline drawingsParticipate in supplier and contractor bid clarification, negotiation, and award meetingsReview and comment on supplier and contractor drawings and technical dataRepresent Mechanical Engineering during model reviews and monitor design progressProvide consultation during fabrication and witness testing of equipmentProvide consultation and on-site assistance for installation, commissioning, and startup activitiesPerform other duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsU.S. Citizenship requiredBachelor of Science degree in EngineeringMinimum of ten (10) years of work-related engineering experienceWorking knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards, including Department of Energy ordersAdvanced knowledge of discipline-specific codes and standardsSignificant experience providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services on large industrial projectsProficiency executing large EPC projects utilizing engineering analysis, 3D modeling, and 2D computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) automation tools in a multi-discipline environmentDemonstrated proficiency in reading and working with Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)Demonstrated design experience in mechanical systems and equipment design and specificationDemonstrated proficiency with 2D CADD applications such as Bentley MicroStation and Autodesk AutoCADAbility to communicate effectively with project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractorsAbility to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes, and guidelinesAbility to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective mannerIntermediate computer skills including proficiency in word processing, email, spreadsheets, and presentation softwareDesired SkillsProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseExperience designing systems, structures, and components for nuclear facilities under ASME NQA-1 requirementsDemonstrated experience managing and leading large projectsProficiency with project setup, development of control-level schedules, progress reporting, and project close-outPractical field experienceExperience supporting EPC projects for:U.S. Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government agenciesNuclear facilities operating under nuclear quality assurance programsManufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industriesIntermediate knowledge of:Instrumentation and Control (I&C) specifications for equipmentFinite element analysisMechanical equipment design through all project phases including conceptual design, construction, and commissioningRotating equipment, pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, packaged equipment, metallurgy, and weldingAdvanced knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materialsEducation and Experience RequirementsBachelor of Science degree in Engineering requiredMinimum of ten (10) years of related engineering experience requiredRelevant nuclear, federal, or large industrial EPC project experience strongly preferredWhy Work at COMPA Industries?We strive to provide careers, not just jobs, for our employees.
