BIG LOTS 320612295 Capital BoulevardWake Forest, NC 27587, USADescriptionPosition PurposeOverall responsibility for operating the store at maximum sales and profit with the Company policies and procedures.Job ScopeStore Manager is expected to work the number of hours necessary to successfully operate the store within the guidelines of policies and procedures and the additional requirement of his/her supervisors. A typical workweek is 48 to 52 hours in shopping center stores and 45 hours per week minimum in downtown locations. The number of hours worked should be reported on the time sheet, exactly as worked. Any vacation, sick leave, bereavement or any other absences should have prior approval by the District Manager with supporting personnel status mailed to the Personnel Department. Store Manager should submit monthly and weekly schedule to the District Manager in writing, mailed to the District Manager each week so that it is received no later than Saturday prior to the beginning of the workweek. Any deviation from this schedule should have prior approval of the District Manager.Essential FunctionsMaintain an outgoing and enthusiastic rapport with store customers, providing good service and all possible assistance.Successfully complete the Management Training Program.Employ and properly train a qualified Assistant Manager, with the advice and approval of the District Manager.Employment and training of other store personnel with the assistance of the Assistant Manager and the advice and approval of the District Manager.Obtain the advice of your District Manager on any personnel or operational problems or opportunities. In the absence of the District Manager, consult with the Regional Vice-President; if unavailable, contact the Senior Vice-President of Store Operations.Control inventory shrinkage to within 2.5% of annual sales. Any shrinkage over 3.5% for two consecutive times, or over 5%, will result in disciplinary action up to and possibly including termination.Maintain a Shrink Check Test score of 80 or above. Any score below 80 will result in disciplinary action up to and possibly including termination.Enforce Company Safety Policies.Maintain a good relationship with all area law enforcement agencies and solicit their assistance in store security matters.Complete, approve, and supervise the weekly schedule for all store personnel and operate within the assigned payroll budget with the assistance of the Assistant Manager. Notify the District Manager of any problems with the payroll budget.Assign duties and properly train all employees to perform their assignments according to company procedure.Inform all employees of company policies and procedures and effectively enforce them at all times.Transmit/report payroll information accurately and in a timely manner per policy.Use authorized company procedures to maintain a well-balanced and in-stock merchandise inventory, including seasonal merchandise distribution.Maintain good standards of cleanliness throughout all areas of the store.Maintain clean and organized merchandise displays in all departments.Maintain well-organized office and stock room areas.Maintain store operating hours based on direction from Senior Management at Corporate Office.Verify all receipts of merchandise according to company policy and procedures, reporting any overages/shortages.Supervise the pricing of all merchandise according to company procedure.Keep the District Manager/RVP informed of fast and slow sellers, and problems with direct vendor shipments.Hold total responsibility for the store cash fund and sales receipts, ensuring all cash handling and security procedures are enforced.Ensure that all reports, records, and inventories are completed accurately and according to company policy and procedure.Keep the District Manager informed of all equipment or building structure problems or opportunities.Notify in advance your District Manager of any absence from the store during normal scheduled work hours.Maintain the confidentiality of all store sales records or any other company information.Receive approval of the District Manager for all expenditures over $50.00.Work designated hours as required by the District Manager.Perform any other jobs or duties that may be required or assigned.Implement company programs with accuracy and timeliness to maximize associate and/or customer benefits (e.g., incentive plans, sales promotions, merchandise programs).Project positive leadership in appearance, professionalism, communication skills, knowledge, judgment, objectivity, and morale of store employees.Handle count bulletins, markdowns, and on-hand requests with accuracy and timeliness.Update on-hand merchandise regularly to ensure inventory accuracy.Call in deposit information daily as required by corporate.Order merchandise weekly to maintain in-stock and maximize sales.AuthorityHire store personnel as per company policy with approval of District Manager.Terminate store personnel after review and receiving approval of the District Manager or Regional Operations Manager/Field Human Resources Manager.Conduct annual performance reviews and request pay adjustments to District Managers.Use good judgment in authorizing refunds or exchanges that do not specifically meet company policy, prioritizing customer benefit.Exercise good judgment while enforcing policy and procedure, handling layaways, credit cards, checks, and cash transactions.Qualifications and Skills RequiredHigh School Diploma or GED.3+ years of related experience in store management.Ability to effectively communicate in English.Strong planning, coaching, analytical, and communication skills.Team-oriented work style.Working ConditionsRetail store environment where extended periods of standing are required.Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs from floor level to above shoulder height; must be able to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, and repetitive lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.Retail store stockroom environment subject to fluctuations in temperature.Occasional lifting and maneuvering of merchandise and displays.Frequent lifting and maneuvering of merchandise and displays.Exposure to dust and extreme temperatures while unloading trailers.Scheduled work hours may vary, to include evenings and weekends.Occasional use of ladders required.Education EquivalencyAS/AA degree plus 2 years of related experience.Preferred Skills and BehaviorsDetail-oriented: capable of carrying out a given task with all necessary detail.Leader: inspires teammates to follow them.Dedicated: devoted to a task or purpose with loyalty or integrity.Functional expert: considered a thought leader on a subject.Motivation: performs well by contributing to the success of a project or organization.Flexibility: inspired to perform well when granted the ability to set your own schedule and goals.Self-starter: performs without outside help.Ability to make an impact: inspired to perform well by the ability to contribute to the success of a project or the organization.Education and Experience PreferencesHigh School or better.3–5 years of related experience.Equal Opportunity EmployerThis employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
