Come work at a place where you have a direct impact on the quality of life for Kent residents, business owners and visitors alike!Adaptive Recreation Day Camp Counselor(2 Positions Available)Hours: 38-40 hours per weekCamp runs from June 24-August 7, 2026Mandatory Training Dates: June 19, 22, and 23, 2026Mandatory Parent Night: June 23, 2026Interviews: Will be scheduled as applications are receivedMust be available for in-person interviews.Hourly Rate: $18.75-19.75, depending on experienceDuties: Under the direction of the Adaptive and Youth/Teen Manager, Adaptive Coordinator, and Co-Directors, plan and lead daily activities for children entering grades 4-6 (Fall 2026) with developmental and/or physical disabilities. Camp consists of a maximum of 5 campers and 1-2 staff members. Activities include field trips, sports, games, arts, and crafts.Minimum QualificationsMust be at least 18 years of age.Possess a valid CPR and Standard First Aid Card by start date.Must be enthusiastic, energetic, reliable, trustworthy, and remain calm under pressure.Ability to be sensitive and responsive to the needs of all the campers.Ability to work as a member of a team and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple distractions and competing priorities.Applicants are subject to Washington State background check.Other requirements include three personal and/or work references.Preferred QualificationsOne (1) year or more of experience working with children with or without disabilities in recreation, teaching, or day camp environment.Knowledge of age appropriate athletic and social activities, crafts, and other large group activities for children between 4-6 grade (Fall 2026) with developmental and/or physical disabilities.Ability to live by Kent Parks mission of "Dedicated to Enriching Lives" and demonstrate the following characteristics: responsible, respectful, honest, energetic, passionate, flexible, original, creative, dependable, thoughtful.Physical RequirementsMust be able to physically play and demonstrate active games, work with arts and crafts materials.Outdoor recreational environment subject to noise that varies from low to high, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions and periodic interruptions.Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible.Strong stamina and ability to keep up with campers.Temporary employees with the City of Kent do not receive insurance or time off benefits outside of those which are legally mandated. In certain instances, temporary employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the State of Washington's Department of Retirement Systems.Please attach resume and cover letter to application.
