SUMMARY: As a Line Cook, you will play a key role in preparing and executing high-quality meals in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Responsibilities include cooking and plating menu items, maintaining food safety standards, supporting kitchen operations, and collaborating with the culinary team to ensure efficient and consistent meal service. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes, portion standards, and presentation expectations. Operate grills, ovens, fryers, stovetops, and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely manner during service periods. Assist with meal preparation for catering, congregate dining, and other nutrition programs. Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned kitchen stations throughout shifts. Monitor food quality, freshness, and temperatures to ensure compliance with food safety standards. Properly label, date, and store food items in accordance with health regulations. Assist with inventory management, including stocking and notifying leadership of shortages. Follow sanitation and cleaning procedures for kitchen equipment, work areas, and utensils. Work collaboratively with prep cooks, servers, dishwashers, and kitchen leadership. Support dishwashing and general kitchen cleaning tasks as needed. Assist with receiving and storing deliveries. Follow all workplace safety guidelines and proper PPE procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned by kitchen management. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED preferred. ServeSafe Certification required or ability to obtain within designated timeframe. Minimum 2 years of cooking or commercial kitchen experience preferred. Experience in high-volume dining, catering, or institutional food service is a plus. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Strong understanding of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Dependable, organized, and adaptable. Ability to prioritize tasks and remain composed under pressure. Willingness to learn and contribute to a collaborative kitchen environment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS: Stand and move continuously for up to 8 hours or more. Frequently walk, bend, kneel, twist, and reach throughout the shift. Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Use hands and fingers to operate kitchen equipment, utensils, and knives. Perform repetitive tasks including chopping, stirring, plating, and lifting. Assess food quality and presentation using sight, smell, hearing, and taste. Work in environments with varying noise levels, temperatures, and humidity. Regular exposure to heat from ovens, grills, fryers, and stovetops. Work safely around sharp objects and commercial kitchen equipment. This position is in person and takes place in a commercial kitchen setting. Regular exposure to heat; appropriate training and personal protective equipment (PPE) are provided. Fast-paced, team-oriented setting requiring attention to food safety and safe working conditions, with moderate noise and frequent interruptions. Schedules may be adjusted to fit program needs.
