Apply Today!Job Summary for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides services using radionuclides to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of disease. The technologist demonstrates knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of nuclear medicine, radiation protection and specialized techniques. The images are produced and in accordance with the ARRT and CNMT standards. Furthermore, the technologist will perform procedures and QC Test within the guideline set by the Bureau of Radiation Control, South Austin Hospital’s Policies and Procedures Manual and the Radioactive Materials License (RAML). Maintains professional judgment and conduct that is complimentary of the ARRT Code of Ethics and St. David’s Healthcare Values. Responsibilities of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Perform Nuclear Medicine exams in accordance with SDMC Medical Imaging protocols.Administer prescribed pharmaceutical grade radioactive materials to patients as outlined by state/federal regulations.Demonstrate appropriate radioactive materials safety measures for self, other staff and patients as outlined by state/federal regulations.Explain procedures to patients prior to exam.Demonstrate proficiency with equipment used for NM exams (Spect Cameras, and PACS).Ensure availability of physician for procedures requiring the administration of medications and supervision.Perform duties to maintain department functions such as QC checks.Maintain required documentation regarding radioactive materials, both upon receipt and prior to administration.Perform surveys and document findings of work area, patient rooms, and radioactive waste storage area at appropriately scheduled intervals.Adhere to policies related to Standard Precautions, Infection Control, and Radiation Safety guidelines as described by TDHS and Joint Commission.Work with Radiation Safety Officer in maintaining quality control and quality assurance guidelines to ensure all regulatory standards are met, i.e., Texas Dept. of Health and Bureau of Radiation Control. Qualifications for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist EDUCATION: Graduate from an approved Joint Review Committee on Education Program in Nuclear Medicine Technology program or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: One year of experience as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist preferred LICENSED/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Certified or Temporary Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services as a Medical Radiologic TechnologistCertified by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (CNMT) or Certified in nuclear medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (N) or Board eligible to take the CNMT or ARRT (N) examinations within 24 months Is a graduated from an approved Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT) and eligible to take the CNMT or ARRT (N) within 24 monthsBasic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date St. David's South Austin Medical Center, which is part of St. David's HealthCare.
