Its employees consistently rank Moss as one of the best places to work.POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACTMoss’ DOT Safety Specialist is a subject matter expert for all DOT-regulated fleet operations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) compliance programs. The DOT Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting operational excellence, protecting the company’s safety rating, reducing organizational risk, and advancing a proactive culture of safety among commercial drivers, field leadership, and operations teams.Essential Job Duties And ResponsibilitiesEstablish, maintain, and audit Driver Qualification (DQ) files in accordance with 49 CFR Part 391Verify driver credentials including CDL validity, medical certifications, MVR reviews, and employment history, prior to driver qualification and on an ongoing basisCoordinate and monitor driver medical examinations and certification renewals, and CDL expiration requirementsEnsure timely completion of annual driver file reviews, updates and required documentationManage the FMCSA clearinghouse pre-employment, annual limited, and full queries as requiredMonitor driver disqualification, suspensions, and license downgrade notificationsMonitor daily Hours of Service compliance for all commercial driversReview electronic logging device (ELD) data for log accuracy, falsification risk, unassigned driving time, and violation trendsInvestigate and document HOS violationsEnsure ELD systems are properly maintained and compliant with FMCSA regulationsProvide coaching and counseling to drivers regarding HOS regulationsPartner with Fleet Safety Director on DOT-recordable accident investigations and root cause analysisAssist with comprehensive accident reports and documentationMaintain accident records and trend analysis dataMonitor company CSA scores across all BASIC categoriesAnalyze motor carrier data from FMCSA's Safety Measurement System (SMS)Prepare reports and presentations on CSA performance for managementManage DOT drug and alcohol testing program in accordance with 49 CFR Part 40 and Part 382Coordinate pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow up testing requirementsMonitor testing completion, compliance deadlines, and record retention requirementsStay current with all FMCSA regulations, updates, and industry best practicesAssist with internal audits to ensure compliance with all applicable DOT regulationsMonitor all required DOT programs including maintenance records coordination, and safety managementGenerate regular safety reports and metrics for management reviewMaintain organized records in compliance with DOT retention requirementsTrack and report on key safety performance indicators (KPIs)Document all safety meetings, training sessions, and corrective actionsPerform other duties as assignedEducation And Work ExperienceAssociate or Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Transportation, or related field preferredMinimum 5-7 years of experience in DOT/FMCSA compliance and/or fleet safety managementProven track record of managing driver qualification files and Hours of Service (HOS) complianceExperience with Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) score management and improvement initiativesThorough understanding of CSA and the Safety Measurement System (SMS)Proficiency with Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) and fleet management softwareExperience with FMCSA portals (Clearinghouse, DataQs, SMS, etc.)Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Valid driver's license with clean driving recordPrevious experience in the construction industry or similar heavy equipment environmentExperience with transportation management systems (TMS) and fleet tracking softwareExperience preparing for and successfully completing DOT compliance reviewsFamiliarity with post-accident drug and alcohol testing proceduresJOB TITLE: DOT SAFETY SPECIALISTJOB LOCATION: FORT LAUDERDALE, FLCLASSIFICATION: FULL TIME – EXEMPT – SALARIEDREPORTS TO: DIRECTOR, FLEET SAFETY & DOT COMPLIANCEMoss is an equal opportunity employer.
