JACKSON COUNTY, GEORGIACLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATIONCLASSIFICATION TITLE: ANIMAL CONTROL TECHNICIANPURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATIONThis entry level position is responsible for completing various functions within the Animal Control Facility in relations to caring for animals housed at the center.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Observes animals for signs of illness or stress, and administers medication as prescribed.Feeds, handles and restrains animals.Assist citizens with adoptions.Maintains records on animals, including treatments and behavioral observations.Collects blood, urine and fecal samples.Walks animals.Cleans cages, equipment and facilities.Must be able to physically lift and carry animals and material.May be exposed to unpleasant odors and noises.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSPerforms other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSRequires a high school diploma or GED. Must possess a valid driver's license. Successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen. Secure/Non-Secure or higher certification through the Georgia Department of Corrections is required within the first year of employment.Must be available for on-call duty as assigned; including evenings, weekends, and holidays.PERFORMANCE APTITUDESData Utilization: Requires the ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data according to a prescribed schema or plan. Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics are similar to or divergent from prescribed standards, procedures or routines.Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.ADA COMPLIANCEPhysical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials in excess of 50 pounds.Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals.
