We are currently seeking an Assistant Grower to join our dynamic and expanding team.Position SummaryAs the Assistant Grower, you will help cultivate high-quality crops in a healthy, sustainable, and safe environment. You'll collaborate with experienced Growers and follow best practices to ensure excellence in every stage of the growing process.Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:Receive the orders of fertilizers and mix of fertilizers, ensure the proper disposal of containers and keep the Fertilizer Room clean and organizedDaily collection of water samples for testing pH, EC and drainage percentage to present to the GrowerWeekly collection of water samples for lab analysis of Feed, Drain and MediaClean, maintain and repair the irrigation systems and its parts such as Irrigation lines, valves, diaphragms and filtersInspect, clean and/or refill probes, thermostats, heating valves etc.Clean and maintain all the equipment related to bio or chemical application/spray to the crop or for disinfection of infrastructureCollect information about coming orders of bio controls and/or bees and ensure they are distributed and placed correctly and timelyMonitor the effectiveness of the pollinationMonitor the effectiveness of the biological or chemical treatmentsApply and mix pesticides or other treatments as neededCalibrate sprayers and ensure volumes and doses used are according to Grower's recommendationEnsure the proper washing and disposal of pesticides containers in compliance with the Pesticide Act RegulationsControl the Inventory of Personal Protective Equipment such as spray suits, masks, gloves, etc.Control the Inventory of Pesticides must keep monthly inventory updatedEnsure spray applications prescribed by the Grower are done correctly, safely and timelyKeep record of all the treatments in the proper forms with all information neededCommunicate to the Grower any indications of pests and diseasesKeep record of all the variables needed in any trails or research taking place in the facilityWeekly collection of data for Crop RegistrationRemove diseased plants for testing or disposalSupport the jobs of cleaning, disinfection and planting of the Greenhouses at the beginning/end of each crop cycle; must learn to operate machinery and know all the procedures in these kinds of jobsAs a Jr Grower you must be familiar with all the systems and procedures of the Greenhouse to be able to act as an alternative when a Grower, or a Labour Supervisor or a Scout are absentMust understand the processes and the objectives pursued by the Performance ProgramsAssist with the implementation of a Food Safety Program.Must promote a safe and secure workplace environment.Maintain high standards of conduct and professionalism.Adjust climate and watering settings in climate control software at Growers directionKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Post-secondary education is considered an assetPrevious experience in a commercial growing environment or greenhouse is requiredFamiliarity with nutrients for commercial growingFamiliarity with Computers (MS Office Suite)Experience with growing controls would be assetMust be familiar with horticultural nomenclatureAbility to communicate effectively (written, oral and spoken) in English; additional languages (i.e. Spanish, will be considered an asset)Physical Abilities:Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of timeMust be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legsMust be able to lift material regularly between 30 lbs to 50lbsAble to climb stairs and stand on feet for an extended period of timeAbility to work in greenhouse temperatures, (80 degrees or warmer)Job Requirements: The incumbent will be committed to customer service excellence and leading by example.
