Planner
DescriptionUnder general supervision is responsible for providing planning and zoning information to the public, collects research information as necessary, implements comprehensive plan policies, works on neighborhood planning and special projects and prepares reports as necessary. Communication with City residents during the discussion of matters related to the City Zoning and Land Development Code and the City Comprehensive Plan, et al, including, but not limited to: Permit applications that need to be reviewed by Zoning, processing of Occupational Licenses as required under Zoning, assisting City residents in understanding portions of the codes as it may apply to proposed work they may wish to construct on their property, participating in public hearing presentations related to projects proposed for site plan review, variances, rezoning, Future Land Use Map amendments, assist in drafting staff reports and public notice letters, and similar. Processes citizen inquiries related to planning and zoning topics, et al, and works to provide requested information in an expeditious manner. The omission of specific statements related to the duties and responsibilities of this position does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or reasonable within the scope of the position.)Develops planning studies and reports in support of new and updated plans, programs and regulationsReviews or assists in the review of moderately difficult development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulationsPrepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodiesCollects a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, tax base data, and occupancy ratesEvaluates or assists in the evaluation of rezonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances and other proposalsActs as liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials in developing neighborhood plansCoordinates community review of public and private development projectsProvides information to the public regarding development regulationsAssists in resolving citizen and customer issuesOversees the work of consultants and internsConducts field evaluations and assessmentsAttends night and evening meetings as neededAssists the Code Enforcement division with zoning questions and researchCreates website updatesCreates addressesWorks with State and local agencies to confirm the City’s boundaryCreates GIS mapsReviews and processes zoning and landscaping permits and inspectionsReviews business tax receipts for zoning complianceApplies for grantsPerforms other related duties as requiredMust have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through personal contact, the use of the telephone and/or other City- issued technology devices. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist under desks and around furniture; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight up to 20 lbs.; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
