Position Type: Support Staff/Nutrition Services Kitchen Staff Date Posted: 5/19/2026 Location: Penrose Elementary School Nutrition Services Kitchen Staff Job Summary: The Nutrition Services Kitchen Staff member supports the daily operation of the school kitchen by assisting with food preparation, meal service, cleaning, sanitation, and general kitchen duties. This position helps provide students with safe, nutritious, and appealing meals while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming cafeteria environment. The employee works cooperatively with Nutrition Services staff, school staff, and students to support the overall mission of Fremont RE-2 School District and the District's commitment to serving students with care, consistency, and pride. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:Assist with the preparation, portioning, and serving of meals in accordance with established menus, procedures, and nutrition guidelines.Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and cafeteria environment.Follow proper food handling, storage, temperature, sanitation, and safety procedures.Wash dishes, utensils, trays, kitchen equipment, work surfaces, and food service areas.Assist with receiving, stocking, rotating, and organizing food and supplies.Operate kitchen equipment safely and appropriately as assigned.Assist with meal service and provide friendly, respectful service to students and staff.Support accurate meal counts, point-of-sale procedures, or related documentation as assigned.Follow all District, department, state, and federal requirements related to school nutrition operations.Complete required training related to food safety, sanitation, school nutrition, and District procedures.Report safety concerns, equipment issues, supply needs, or food quality concerns to the appropriate supervisor.Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with students, staff, families, and coworkers.Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred.Previous food service, kitchen, cafeteria, or school nutrition experience preferred.Knowledge of basic kitchen equipment and safe food handling practices preferred.Ability to complete required food safety, sanitation, and school nutrition training.Ability to work positively and respectfully with students, staff, coworkers, and the public.Ability to follow written and verbal directions.Ability to maintain dependable attendance and punctuality.Successful completion of all required criminal background screenings and fingerprinting. Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods of time.Ability to bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and additional weight with assistance as needed.Ability to work in a kitchen environment that may include heat, cold, steam, wet floors, cleaning products, and food service equipment.Ability to follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
