THIS IS A PERMANENT POSITION THAT WILL SUPPORT CUSTODIANS DISTRICT-WIDE.Job SummaryProvides safe and clean school buildings for students, staff, and community. This position will support all district buildings and the maintenance department when no custodial support is necessary.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesEssential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.Cleans areas as assigned (i.e. rooms, halls, offices, rest rooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops and buffs all types of floor surfaces.Washes windows, white boards, walls, doors and baseboards.Cleans and polishes furniture, windows, metal work and computer screens.Maintains indoor and outdoor lighting.Adjusts clocks.Keeps walks, parking areas and entrances clear and clean.Washes, scrubs and disinfects restrooms and locker rooms as well as cleans sinks, fixtures, panels and drinking fountains daily.Checks and stocks bathroom supplies.Cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) in a safe and appropriate manner, picks up trash and responds to special requests for custodial services from staff members with supervisor approval.Sets up, takes down and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings, athletic events and other District needs as assigned.Unlocks doors and windows, turns on lights and prepares buildings for start of day and/or locks doors and windows, turns off lights and secures buildings as assigned.Make minor repairs (i.e., sinks, tiles, lockers, change light bulbs, etc.).Empties and cleans waste containers.Inspect playground equipment, general cleaning of playground equipment, and maintain impact material. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to Head Custodian and/or Principal/Assistant Principal.Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required. Attend work regularly and be punctual.Marginal Duties And ResponsibilitiesMarginal duties of this position include the following. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Previous experience working in sanitation or custodial positions preferred.Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Ability to interact with students and staff appropriately.Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.General knowledge of computer usage preferred.Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the community.Certificates as determined by the District including ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card, forklift certification, state pesticide applicator license. The District shall allow each full time employee ten (10) days’ sick leave at full pay during each school year or one (1) day per month employed, whichever is greater. Sick leave not take shall accumulate for an unlimited number of days.Holidays: Holiday pay shall be granted to regular/full time employees for the following listed categories: 10 & 11 month employees: Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day and Memorial Day12 month employees: July 4th, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day and Memorial Day Exception: Custodians will have the day after Thanksgiving in lieu of Veteran’s Day.
