Job Title: Area Superintendent – Large-Scale Mission Critical / Data Center ProjectsJob DescriptionThe Area Superintendent leads a defined portion of a large, complex commercial construction project, often focused on mission critical or data center work. This role blends hands-on building with detailed planning, ensuring that work in the assigned area is safe, well-coordinated, on schedule, and delivered to a high standard of quality.The Area Superintendent plans the work, communicates that plan clearly to crews and trade partners, and executes it in the field while maintaining strong production tracking. Supported by field and project engineers, the Area Superintendent leads from the front, drives field execution, and plays a key role in mentoring the next generation of field leaders. professional development and long-term career growth.ResponsibilitiesLead day-to-day field operations for a defined area of a large, complex commercial construction project, often involving mission critical or data center work.Own and manage safety, schedule, quality, coordination, and production tracking for your assigned area.Develop detailed short- and mid-range plans for your work area, clearly communicate those plans to crews and trade partners, and ensure disciplined execution.Coordinate and sequence work among multiple subcontractors to minimize conflicts, reduce downtime, and keep activities aligned with the overall project schedule.Apply construction management and scheduling principles to plan work efficiently, identify critical path activities, and drive schedule recovery when needed.Use scheduling tools and concepts, including critical path methods, to understand and influence the project schedule rather than simply reading it.Collaborate closely with field and project engineers who support your area, while providing clear direction, priorities, and expectations.Monitor field progress daily, track production, and adjust manpower, sequencing, and work plans to maintain or improve schedule performance.Maintain a strong safety culture in the field by leading safety discussions, enforcing safety policies, and modeling safe work practices at all times.Identify potential safety risks in complex environments, including structural work, heavy lifts, and high-activity zones, and take proactive steps to mitigate them.Participate in or lead the creation and review of task-specific safety plans such as AHA, STA, JHA, or equivalent documents.Ensure that all work in your area meets project quality standards by reviewing work in place, addressing deficiencies promptly, and enforcing quality expectations with trade partners.Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and related technical documents to guide field work and resolve constructability questions.Use digital tools and cloud-based platforms, such as Bluebeam, MS Office (including Excel), and common construction software, to manage documents, mark up drawings, and support coordination.Work closely with project leadership to align area plans with overall project goals, milestones, and client expectations.Communicate professionally with clients and stakeholders in the field, including when requests are challenging or change unexpectedly.Mentor and coach newer team members, including field engineers and less experienced staff, to build their technical and leadership capabilities.Support and reinforce a high-performance site culture by acting as a self-starter, taking ownership, and integrating quickly into established processes and standards.Participate in performance discussions, planning meetings, and coordination sessions to keep your area aligned with the broader project strategy.Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements, sharing lessons learned, and helping refine field procedures.Support long-term project staffing needs by committing to the full project life cycle and demonstrating interest in a sustained career in large-scale commercial and mission critical construction.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field.5–6+ years of experience on large commercial construction projects, with mission critical or data center project experience considered a strong advantage.Proven field leadership experience managing a defined area of work, including oversight of crews and subcontractors.Demonstrated ability to plan work, communicate plans clearly, and execute them effectively in a fast-paced, complex field environment.Strong construction management skills, including an understanding of sequencing, logistics, and trade coordination.Experience with commercial construction practices and standards, including structural, architectural, and MEP scopes.Subcontractor management experience, including setting expectations, monitoring performance, and resolving issues in the field.Solid understanding of scheduling concepts and tools, including critical path methods, and the ability to use schedules to drive field execution.Ability to work with project scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or an equivalent scheduling platform.Strong blueprint and shop drawing reading skills, with the ability to translate drawings into clear field direction.Familiarity with layout concepts and field verification practices.Comfort using digital workflows and cloud-based tools to manage drawings, RFIs, and coordination documents.Proficiency with Bluebeam or similar PDF markup software for reviewing and annotating drawings and documents.Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel, for tracking production, schedules, and field data.Safety-first mindset, with experience working on large-scale commercial job sites and enforcing safety expectations.Experience creating or reviewing task-specific safety documents such as AHA, STA, JHA, or similar.Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey expectations and plans clearly to crews, trade partners, and project stakeholders.Demonstrated collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively within a high-performance project team.Professional demeanor with clients and partners, including under pressure and when responding to unexpected or challenging requests.Valid driver’s license.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience actively managing schedules using Critical Path Method (CPM), including building and maintaining schedules, adding and deleting activities, adjusting logic ties, analyzing critical path, and driving recovery plans.Hands-on experience working in Primavera P6 or an equivalent scheduling tool is strongly preferred.Ability to serve as a strong field planner rather than a pure scheduler, balancing planning duties with active field leadership.Experience on mission critical or data center projects, particularly at large scale, is a significant plus.Comfort working in a fast-paced, highly structured environment with strong coordination expectations.Self-starter who integrates quickly into established site culture and processes.Enjoys coaching and developing newer team members and takes an active role in mentorship.Adaptable and resilient, able to adjust plans and priorities as project conditions evolve.OSHA 10 certification is preferred.CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred.Interest in a long-term career in large-scale commercial construction, with a focus on complex, high-profile projects such as billion-dollar data centers.Willingness to is not hybrid or remote. You will work on a large-scale, high-profile data center project with a project value around $1B, in a fast-paced and highly structured construction environment. The site features significant coordination among multiple trades and high-activity zones, requiring strong attention to safety, communication, and planning. Typical workdays start early, with a 6:00 a.m. start common. A standard workweek often includes 5–6 days, and during peak phases, the schedule may increase to 6–7 days per week to meet critical milestones.The environment emphasizes strong processes, high standards, and disciplined field execution. You will use a range of technologies and tools, including Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software, Bluebeam or similar PDF markup tools, MS Office (particularly Excel), and common construction platforms and cloud-based systems for document control and coordination. The company provides a structured but efficient onboarding process, after which you are expected to take rapid ownership of your assigned area.
