2026-2027 School Year: Special Education Resource Room Teacher (Middle School)

Marshall Public Schools is dedicated to our mission, "To create ONE equitable, inclusive and innovative educational community."SUMMARY:The Special Education teacher will be responsible for providing instruction and support to students in grades 6-8. This role includes developing and implementing legally required federal documentation, known as the Individualized Education Program (IEP), which outlines each student's goals, accommodations, and necessary support. These goals may address both academic and behavioral needs. The teacher will provide instruction to ensure students can meaningfully access the curriculum and make progress toward grade-level standards and expectations.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or higherValid Michigan elementary or secondary teaching certificateMeet requirements for teaching Special Education (CI, EI, LD) at the middle school level with additional endorsement in English (BA)/Language Arts (BX), Math (EX), and/or K-8 All subjectsFamiliarity with special education procedures, including the development, implementation and assessment of IEPs and Behavior Support PlansExperience in educating students who qualify for special education services/programmingKnowledge and understand of state, local and federal regulations and policies affecting special educationOrganization and time management skillsLifelong learner with a collaborative spiritPREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:Master's degree in special education or related fieldThree or more years of teaching experienceKnowledge of current special education practices and methodologiesExperience working with proposed age groupExperience using a student information system and/or other type of databaseSPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:Build trust and confidence with studentsTeach district approved curriculumPlan curriculum, lessons and special education programs and teaching methods, utilizing courses of study and/or grade level expectations adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activitiesMaintain the physical environment of the classroom for organization and presentation purposes; encourage good citizenshipInstruct individuals and groups on special education skill areasMonitor student progress in and outside of the classroomEvaluate student progress based on work output and observation, determine goals, objectives and directionsCommunicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, email, conferences, etc.Prepare report cards, educational records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records and other formsMaintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activitiesParticipate in curriculum development programs and in faculty committeesParticipate in building special education committee meetingsAdminister testing evaluationsRead and be familiar with the School Student Handbook and Policy Manual of Marshall Public Schools; strict compliance with all rules, regulations and policies is requiredMeet all contractual obligations as outlined in the Marshall Teachers' Association Master AgreementDemonstrate an understanding of the district's mission, vision and strategic priorities and actively works to advance them through daily practice and professional conductContributes to the culture and climate of the district by modeling its core values, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment and serving as a committed representative of the district's identity and purpose in all interactions with students, families, staff and the broader communityPerform other related duties that may be assigned by the building principalSALARY:Per Marshall Teachers Association Contract - BA or MACONTRACT YEAR:184 daysM-F 7:25 AM - 2:40 PMBENEFITS:Medical, dental, vision and life
