Senior Production Manager (Theatrical)

The Production Director (also referred to as "Senior Production Manager") is a full-time, exempt salaried position in the Management Office of BOXCAR THEATRE. Compensation is based on experience and performance.
The Production Director reports to the VP of Operations and oversees the Production Team of a given event, show, or run of shows. For various such events, the Production Director’s responsibilities shall include the recruiting, hiring, training, and overseeing of all Production positions, which include: Technical Manager, Talent Manager, Wardrobe Supervisor, Carpenters, and Overhire Contractors; as well as Sound, Lighting, Video, Scenic, Costume, and Properties Designers.
The Production Director shall ensure all technical equipment is maintained in safe, working condition for all performances and events; that the technical and creative team adheres to all pertinent state and local codes; and any technical or safety concerns pertaining to the use of technical equipment are reported and corrected.
The Production Director shall oversee the successful load-in and load-out of all productions and rentals, and is responsible for managing production budgets and schedule deadlines.
The position works closely and communicates with the following personnel to successfully execute all public and private events: Creative Director, Executive Producers, Managing Director, Director of Sales & Marketing, Venue Director, Finance Director, Food & Beverage Manager, Office Manager, FOH Manager, Event Managers, Guest Services Manager, Event Coordinators, and the Executive Director; as well as stage directors including: Performance Director, Music Director, Fight Director, Intimacy Director, Choreographer, and others.
The Production Director may also coordinate with those outside the organization, such as Outside Producers, Outside General Managers, and other Company Managers not employed directly by Boxcar Theatre, as well as private event clients, hosts, and coordinators.
The Production Director must perform the following tasks to the highest standards:
Provide exceptional leadership around the principals of 5-star service
Project and cultivate a professional manner with an emphasis on teamwork, hospitality and guest experience
Execute the artistic vision of the Creative Director as it pertains to all areas of Production
Provide support for the Creative Team, fostering productive communication for seamless event execution
Determine and oversee departmental goals; policies & procedures; and schedule deadlines
Develop departmental expense budgets, and ensure on-budget performance
Supervise and ensure the success of Production staff during all public and private events
Review the nightly Event Report, providing general feedback and overseeing the implementation of action items for the improvement of event delivery related to Production and the guest experience
Maintain good communication and working relationships with all departments, colleagues, and clients
Primary Duties Include:
Recruit, interview, hire, terminate, train, schedule, and oversee a Production staff of talented, cooperative, and diverse personnel to execute all events and shows
Ensure the creative and technical content of each event or show is delivered to the specifications outlined in the BEO or show plan in accordance with the direction of the Event Coordinator and Client, Creative Director and Performance Directors
Ensure all Boxcar Theatre venues are maintained to the highest aesthetic standards, and that all aspects of each venue and its technology are in good working order and event-ready at all times
Ensure the workstations for all Production team members are kept clean and organized
Monitor the appearance, standards, and performance of all Production staff, with an emphasis on training and teamwork
Ensure documentation is created and maintained as needed for all levels of the Production department; this may include creative elements such as scripts, videos, choreography, costumes, rehearsal notes, and cue sheets; as well as technical elements including but not limited to lighting, sound, surveillance cameras, properties, and scenic elements
Manage the successful delivery of events and shows by creating and executing clearly defined production schedules for rehearsals, performances, and events
Clearly and routinely communicate to all Production staff the expectations of the Creative Director, Producers, and Directors
Provide constructive feedback to all Production staff, conducting periodic performance reviews
Oversee the organization of costume storage, stock, and maintenance
Manage venue upgrades and repairs as they pertain to production and scenic elements
Guarantee the timely and successful hiring, booking, and scheduling of creative talent
Attend meetings as required, including: creative, technical, production, operations, private events, sales, and staff meetings
Attend & Conduct routine job performance reviews
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Necessary Qualifications:
Minimum five years experience in management required; theatre or events experience preferred
Minimum of three years production management, stage management, technical director and/or event management experience required
Working knowledge of scheduling, communication, data, and task & project management software, with a preference for experience with GSuite, Microsoft Office, Slack, scrum boards, and gantt charts
Bachelor's degree preferred
Advanced learning in Production Management a plus
