Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs, ensuring their well-being and enhancing their quality of life. You will work in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community care environments. Duties
As a Direct Support Professional, your responsibilities will include:
Assisting individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation
Providing patient observation and monitoring vital signs to ensure health and safety
Implementing care plans tailored to each individual's needs
Supporting individuals in social activities and community engagement
Assisting with medication administration as per prescribed guidelines
Maintaining a clean and safe living environment through regular cleaning tasks
Utilizing equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient handling when necessary
Documenting daily activities and progress in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care
Experience
Ideal candidates will possess the following skills and experience:
Previous experience in caregiving or direct support roles, particularly in home health, respite care, or long-term care settings
Familiarity with working with individuals who have developmental disabilities
Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques is preferred
Experience in patient monitoring and observation skills
Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility needs
Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clients and their families
