Assistant Principal
Job Description:Position Purpose:Under the general supervision of an Elem. School Principal, to assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in admin. The educational program of an Elem. School in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with BOE policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development, specifically as it relates to the use of acceleration as a strategy for mitigating learning loss.To serve as Principal in Principal's absence.Essential Responsibilities:Assists in the development and administration of school programs consistent with school district strategic goals and objectives.Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to instruction and student learning at high levels.Assists in ensuring that BOE policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings.Encourages/Supports staff to continue to grow professionally and to implement new strategies to enhance the teaching and learning process.Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs.Assists in the recruitment and selection of staff members.Involves staff in the development and evaluation of school strategic planning initiatives.Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school's standards and district policies.Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.Facilitates the implementation of curriculum through the use of instructional best practices, assists with classroom management, chairs PPT's and establishes excellent relations with the school community.Additional Duties:Performs related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and Admins as designated by the Superintendent.Note: Description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all-inclusive of every task or responsibility.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:Current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based upon student learning needs.Elem. school curr., special ed. and CT Standards.Best practices in admin, program eval, and staff supervision.Data info systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.Applicable fed. and state laws regarding education.Ability to:Use computer network systems and software apps as needed.Develop and implement projects.Communicate effectively with students & parents.Organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.Engage in self-evals with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees.Effective communication skills.Travel: school district buildings and professional meetings as required.Certification/License:CT State Cert. as an Intermediate Supervisor & Admin (092).Teaching Cert. in related area ( Elem. School or subject area and grade level).Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.Education:Bachelors and Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Admin.Preferred:Sixth year, doctorate, or other planned program in a related fieldHolding any one or more of the following CSDE certifications112, 061, 113, 512, 061, 070, or OT/PT credentialsExperience:* Min. of five (5) years public school experience, preferably Elem.
