Controls Engineer
Position Summary
Aurelia Technologies is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer with hands on experience in power generation, turbine systems, and industrial controls integration. This role is responsible for designing, programming, testing, and commissioning control systems for microturbine based distributed energy solutions.
The ideal candidate brings strong PLC/HMI programming skills, experience with rotating equipment, and the ability to support field commissioning and troubleshooting. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe, reliable, and high performance operation of Aurelias packaged energy systems.
Essential Functions
The following duties and responsibilities are essential functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word “may.”
Develop, program, and test PLC, HMI, and control logic for microturbine based power generation systems
Integrate sensors, instrumentation, protection systems, and communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, etc)
Support system packaging, wiring design, and control panel layout in collaboration with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT/commissioning at customer sites
Troubleshoot turbine control systems, instrumentation, and field issues related to performance, grid integration, or safety interlocks
Analyze operational data and implement control logic improvements for efficiency and reliability
Prepare technical documentation, control narratives, I/O lists, and commissioning reports
Collaborate with vendors and supply chain to specify control components, instrumentation, and hardware
Provide remote and onsite support for system startups, upgrades, and customer training
Ensure compliance with relevant standards (UL, NEC, ISO, CE, etc)
Support continuous improvement initiatives across product lines and engineering processes
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
Required
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience in industrial controls, power generation, or turbine systems
Strong PLC programming skills
Experience with HMI development and SCADA interfaces
Knowledge of rotating equipment, instrumentation, and protection systems
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in field environments
Willingness to travel for commissioning, testing, and customer support
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Preferred
Experience with microturbines, gas turbines, or distributed energy systems
Familiarity with grid interconnect standards and power system controls
Experience with vibration monitoring, fuel control, or combustion systems
Knowledge of CE, UL, ISO, or export control requirements
Experience with data acquisition systems and industrial networking
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Primarily office based with routine visits to the shop floor, test area, and customer sites
Ability to stand, walk, or lift/move components (up to 25 lbs) during inspections
Close vision and focus required for drawings, prototypes, and safety reviews
Occasional off hours or weekend work may be required to support testing or project deadlines
