Accounting and Finance InternThe Accounting and Finance Intern will have an opportunity to gain hands-on accounting experience and learn about the various aspects of the accounting function at Curry Up Now and Mortar & Pestle Brands. Meetings or other requirements within the restaurants may be required. Travel to Corporate Owned Restaurants and Franchise Restaurants across the United States may occur. The environment within the restaurant may be subject to extreme heat and wet, slippery floors, particularly in the food production area. Care must be exercised to wear appropriate attire such as skid resistant shoes to prevent slips.Position Summary:Responsible for helping coordinate the performance and control of the Finance and Accounting requirements for Curry Up Now. The Accounting Intern is responsible for the impeccable standards of excellence as it relates to finance and accounting for the business, most especially in the utilization of gaining experience in navigating the finances of the restaurant industry. This entry-level Internship provides leadership, guidance, and support to the restaurant teams with the overall goal of ensuring the very best operating standards in finance and accounting. The Accounting Intern consistently demonstrates, follows, as well as helps to enforce, company policies, practices, and procedures.Essential Responsibilities:Helps to maintain the financial health of our restaurants by assisting with the General Ledger, bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and budgetsAssists in the annual preparation of sales projections, forecasts, expense budgets, and capital expenditure budgetsHelps to meet or exceed budgeted sales through effective accounting/finance strategiesMaximizes profits by controlling expenses within established budget guidelinesIdentifies, evaluates and responds appropriately to finance/accounting problemsAssists restaurant leaders in identifying areas of improvement in AP/AR and vendor relationshipsEnsure all restaurants meet or exceed Company Operations and Quality Standards in the finance and accounting arenaCollaborate with the Corporate Staff, General Managers, Franchisee's and other pertinent team members for operational financial controls of the restaurantsPerforms visitations at each restaurant on a frequent basis to set budgetary and financial goalsResponsible for providing direction to all team members with regards to achieving the standard that is established in the company values as it relates the financial health of our companyLearns and understands the company "story", how it was started, what it means and how it relates to communities in which our restaurants are locatedPromotes corporate citizenship and social responsibilityWorks with the Corporate Leaders to schedule and conduct training for managers on any new products, platforms, finance/accounting initiativesAids Managers in identifying potential problems and develops solutionsDevelops managerial and leadership abilities of restaurant management staff through impeccable finance and accounting standardsConducts meetings with restaurant management team as necessary regarding labor/COG's budgetsProvides coaching and feedback on an on-going basisDemonstrates positive workplace practices according to company valuesFollows all company policies and proceduresParticipate in weekly management meetings to report on weekly finance and accounting issuesAssist with other administrative tasks as assignedHelps conduct audits and financial reviewsRequirements:Present enrollment in a Higher Education course of study in Finance/Accounting preferred1-3 years of relevant education experience in Accounting and FinanceDemonstrated desire to learn about strategic financial planning, specifically in gaining the experience necessary to be successful in this arenaSome proficiency/exposure to financial/accounting platforms and record-keeping, Google Drive, Email communications, Microsoft SuiteMust live in the Bay Area and be willing to and able to commute daily to our headquarters in South San Francisco and/or local restaurantsWillingness to take on finance projects with a proactive attitudeStrong organizational skills with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organizationAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English languagePossesses exceptional math and accounting skill (add, subtract, multiply, divide)Places a value on diversity, community, and shows respect for othersProven ability to solve problems and handle high stress situations in times of expansive growthMust be prepared to multitask in accordance with the demands of the businessAbility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings if requiredDesire to learn and grow within the role and within the company
