Role Overview We are currently searching for a Field Metrology Engineer to deliver expert mechanical alignment, dimensional inspection, and precision measurement solutions directly at client locations. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a hands-on environment, enjoys tackling mechanical challenges, and utilizes cutting-edge measurement tools to resolve equipment alignment discrepancies. You do not need a background specifically in metrology to qualify. We welcome applications from early-career professionals with 1 to 2 years of engineering experience who possess solid 3D modeling capabilities, mechanical intuition, and a strong desire to master specialized measurement processes while traveling. Your primary focus will involve utilizing laser measurement technology to align rolls, cylinders, and associated machinery found in film, printing, conveyor, and food processing sectors. Assignments typically require 2 to 3 days on-site, though you should be prepared for occasional full-week projects involving overnight travel. Core Responsibilities Utilize laser trackers and scanners to capture accurate dimensional and alignment data for various projects. Ensure equipment meets engineering standards by performing precise geometric measurements and alignments. Help maintain operational efficiency by diagnosing mechanical and alignment issues to support effective corrective actions. Review engineering specifications and GD&T requirements to establish clear measurement and acceptance criteria. Create comprehensive service reports that include 3D models and graphical data to support findings and recommendations. Foster strong relationships with internal teams and customers to ensure technical challenges are resolved effectively. Investigate the root causes of performance issues related to design, installation, and manufacturing. Help improve team performance by providing technical guidance and training on metrology best practices. Manage a travel schedule that requires being on-site approximately 60% of the time, including weekends when necessary. Candidate Requirements Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline; a Bachelor's degree is preferred. Candidates with 1 to 2 years of engineering experience are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in 3D modeling software and the ability to manipulate 3D models. Capability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T specifications. Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to perform hands-on tasks when required. Ability to meet the demands of a role requiring 60% travel. Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities. Clear communication skills for conveying technical findings to diverse stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Background in optical or laser-based machinery alignment. Experience with metrology software such as PolyWorks, SpatialAnalyzer, Verisurf, Metrolog X4, BuildIT, Geomagic, PC-DMIS, or FARO CAM2. Familiarity with the certification and calibration of industrial equipment. Understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Experience operating heavy machinery like overhead cranes, telehandlers, or forklifts. Knowledge of ANSI standards, including machinery safety and GD&T protocols. Experience with industrial equipment such as rolls and cylinders in the food, film, or printing industries.
