And it's why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it's worth paying for.About The Role:The New York Times is seeking a forward-thinking Vice President of Enterprise Applications & Productivity Platforms to lead the strategy, governance and day-to-day operations of our Workday ecosystem and enterprise productivity application portfolio. This role owns how our core business platforms, from HCM and Finance to SaaS productivity tools, enable how work gets done at The Times.In this role, you will push the boundaries of what Workday and modern SaaS platforms can do, champion emerging capabilities (including native and embedded AI), and ensure our application ecosystem is reliable, secure, cost-effective and continually evolving to meet the needs of our people and our business.This role reports to the Head of Enterprise Technology and partners closely with HR, Finance, Payroll, Legal, Cybersecurity, Data and business leaders across the company. You can typically expect to come into the office 3 days per week.Responsibilities:Enterprise Applications & Productivity LeadershipOwn the enterprise applications and productivity platform strategy, spanning Workday (HCM, Finance) and the broader SaaS productivity ecosystem used across the companyLead the Enterprise Productivity team, responsible for the lifecycle management of SaaS applications (e.g., collaboration, workflow, productivity, and business enablement tools)Establish clear ownership models, standards and decision frameworks for evaluating, onboarding, rationalizing and retiring SaaS applicationsPartner with Cybersecurity, Legal, Privacy and Strategic Sourcing to ensure SaaS tools meet security, compliance, privacy and vendor-risk requirementsDrive cost transparency and optimization across the SaaS portfolio, including license management, usage analytics and contract governanceWorkday Platform OwnershipOwn Workday platform strategy and roadmap in partnership with HR and Finance, aligning prioritiesLead Workday security and tenant management, including security model design, role architecture, tenant strategy, release management and change controlOversee all Workday integrations (EIB, Studio, Core Connectors, APIs and third-party tools), ensuring they are robust, observable, well-documented and aligned with enterprise integration patternsOwn Workday reporting and analytics capabilities supporting HR, Finance, and ComplianceDrive adoption of advanced Workday capabilities (Extend, Accounting Center, automation and AI features) to deliver measurable business outcomesGovernance, Risk & OperationsEstablish and run governance across Workday and enterprise productivity tools, including intake, prioritization, design review, release readiness and communications. Ensure compliance and audit readiness for access controls, segregation of duties, data privacy and internal policy requirementsCoordinate across adjacent platforms (e.g., PeopleSoft, OneModel, Navex, Greenhouse, Coupa, Zip, Ironclad and others) to ensure clean data flows and coherent end-to-end processesBuild and maintain documentation, standards and operating models so platforms are understandable, supportable and resilientPeople & LeadershipBuild, develop and mentor leaders and individual contributors across teams supporting Workday, enterprise applications and productivityFoster a culture of inclusion, accountability, continuous improvement and strong partnership with business stakeholdersAct as a senior leader within Enterprise Technology, contributing to broader platform, architecture and operating-model decisionsDemonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the worldBasic Qualifications:12+ years of experience leading large-scale enterprise application platforms in complex environmentsSignificant experience owning or leading Workday HCM and/or Finance, including security, integrations and reportingDemonstrated experience running or governing an enterprise SaaS productivity portfolio, including vendor selection, lifecycle management and cost optimizationStrong background in access control models, audit readiness, data privacy and platform governanceExperience with modern integration patterns (APIs, event-driven architectures, third-party SaaS integrations)Familiarity with embedded AI and automation capabilities in enterprise platforms, with a thoughtful approach to risk and value realizationProven success leading multi-disciplinary teams and operating in close partnership with HR, Finance, Legal, Security and Technology stakeholdersExperience with Workday Extend and modern Workday integration tools (EIB, Studio, Core Connectors, REST/SOAP APIs, web services, event-driven patterns)Track record of leading technical reporting and analytics efforts, including Workday reporting, calculated fields and/or related analytics toolingProven success leading a multi-disciplinary team (e.g., configuration, integrations, security, reporting) and operating in partnership with HR, Finance, Payroll and Technology stakeholdersAbility to translate complex technical topics into clear, actionable guidance for executives and non-technical partnersDemonstrated ability to move between strategic thinking and hands-on problem-solvingPreferred Qualifications:Experience operating enterprise platforms in a global or multi-entity environmentExperience with Workday Prism, Adaptive Planning or similar analytics and planning toolsExperience building SaaS governance or "enterprise app marketplace" models at scalePrior experience working in or closely with media, technology or similarly fast-paced industries
