Deputy Coroner (On-Call)
Investigates all deaths in which the person appears to have died suddenly while in apparent good health, or, without an attending physician. Investigates suicides, homicides, and all cases where there is a reasonable suspicion as to cause and/or manner of death. Investigates in all cases in which death is due to an infectious disease, accident, or violent act. Writes reports on all deaths investigated and files them with the Coroner. Authorizes autopsies and other medical procedures and collects specimens when appropriate. Provides on-call availability twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. Completes appropriate reports, as required. Attends education and/or training seminars as necessary to maintain compliance under state guidelines as a Deputy Coroner. Testifies at hearings and court proceedings, as required. Attends meetings, seminars, and in-service training as required. Reviews County Policy and Procedures Manual and Coroner's Department Manual. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
