Director of Business Operations (Durham)
Kontek Systems is hiring a Director, Business Operations, to oversee internal performance and business coordination. Reporting to the President and managing a team of three (Procurement Manager, Senior Accountant, and Office Manager), this role owns financial visibility and discipline, an operating cadence, and cross-functional execution, enabling leadership to stay focused on growth and strategy.This is a hands-on operator role for someone comfortable working across functions in a fast-moving environment, using financial data to understand the business, build structure where it's missing, and develop a team along the way.What You'll OwnPartner with accounting and the President on budgeting, forecasting, and monthly reporting; use financial data to drive operating decisionsMaintain visibility into cash flow, margin, inventory, and key cost drivers; surface anomalies before they become issuesOversee reconciliation and controls across procurement, inventory, and the general ledgerLead, develop, and coach a team of three across procurement, accounting, and office operationsRun the operating cadence: leadership meetings, KPI reviews, and accountability trackingServe as the internal owner of employee experienceSupport hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee relationsManage non-project vendor relationships, contracts, and the relationship with our outsourced HR partnerCoordinate ESOP administration with external advisorsServe as Board Secretary; prepare board materials and maintain corporate governanceWhat We're Looking For7–12+ years in business operations, FP&A, or finance, with team leadership experienceStrong financial fluency, including experience using financial data to drive business decisions in an operating environment (not just reporting)Experience where physical inventory, project costs, and the GL had to reconcile (manufacturing, integration, distribution, construction, or similar)Experience operating in or supporting a company in the $10M–$20M revenue range, with an understanding of the structure, pace, and constraints of this stage of growthTrack record of bringing structure to ambiguous, fast-moving environmentsComfortable managing functional specialists and holding outsourced partners accountableWhat Success Looks LikeLeadership has clear, timely visibility into financial and operational performanceProcurement, inventory, and accounting reconcile cleanly; issues are caught earlyPriorities move forwardThe team operates with structure, accountability, and fewer bottlenecksVendor and HR partner relationships are well-managed and cost-effectiveESOP administration runs on schedule with no surprisesSalary: $120,000-$150,000,yearWhy Join KontekHybrid work environmentComprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401k, PTO).Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).Ongoing training and certification opportunities.Collaborative, growth-oriented team culture.Hip downtown Durham location – walkable to restaurants and entertainment.Equal Opportunity Employer:We welcome diversity and encourage applications from women, under-represented minorities, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ+, and gender non-conforming applicants.
