Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Reports To: Director of Finance
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the organization’s financial operations with a focus on grant accounting, compliance, and general accounting functions. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting grant-funded programs, and assisting the finance department during a period of organizational growth and restructuring across multiple nonprofit entities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Grant Accounting & Compliance
Record and track grant revenue and expenditures, with an emphasis on federal, state, and local grant funding.
Ensure grant-related financial activity complies with grant agreements, funding restrictions, and applicable regulations.
Assist with grant budgeting, monitoring expenditures, and maintaining supporting documentation.
Support preparation of grant-related financial reports and compliance materials.
General Accounting Functions
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations.
Maintain accurate general ledger entries and account reconciliations.
Support monthly and year-end close activities.
Assist with budget preparation and financial monitoring.
Financial Operations & Support
Maintain organized financial and grant documentation in accordance with internal policies and audit requirements.
Assist with internal and external audits and monitoring visits.
Support process improvements related to accounting, data integrity, and internal controls.
Collaborate with the Director of Finance and other staff to support organizational growth and operational needs.
Qualifications
Experience
Prior accounting experience required; nonprofit and grant-funded accounting experience preferred.
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger accounting.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data extraction and analysis.
Demonstrated attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
Education
Degree not required; relevant accounting experience may be substituted for formal education.
Work Environment
Onsite position.
Occasional overtime may be required during peak periods.
Background checks required, including standard and child abuse clearances.
