Structural Engineer – Transmission Lines

A Career-Launching Opportunity in Transmission Line Engineering No transmission line experience? That’s okay — we’ll train you. If you have a structural engineering background and want to grow into one of the most in-demand specialties in the power industry, this role was built for you. Job Overview Infinite Energy Engineering is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Transmission and Distribution Engineering team in a role designed for professionals who are ready to transition their structural expertise into the growing field of transmission line engineering.  You will provide engineering support to a local electric utility focused on the maintenance, evaluation, and reliability of existing overhead transmission lines. This position functions as a staff augmentation resource, working within the utility’s engineering and operations organization to support inspection programs, condition assessments, maintenance designs, and asset life-extension initiatives.  You will not be expected to arrive as a transmission line expert. Instead, you will receive a combination of one-on-one mentorship from senior transmission engineers and hands-on learning through real project work — developing deep expertise while making an immediate contribution to your local community’s power infrastructure. Key Responsibilities You’ll grow into these responsibilities through mentorship and project-based learning:  Transmission Line Maintenance Engineering Provide engineering support for the maintenance, repair, and reinforcement of existing overhead transmission lines Evaluate transmission structures, foundations, conductors, insulators, and hardware to identify deficiencies or reliability risks Develop engineering recommendations for corrective actions including repair, retrofit, or replacement of existing assets Support system reliability and asset life-extension initiatives Inspection & Condition Assessment Support Review and analyze transmission line inspection data Identify issues requiring engineering evaluation Prioritize maintenance actions based on condition, risk, and utility standards Perform or support field visits to validate asset conditions and proposed solutions Structural & Mechanical Analysis Your existing structural skills will directly apply here: Perform or review structural and mechanical analysis of existing transmission line structures Evaluate loading and clearance compliance in accordance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and utility-specific standards Assess impacts of material degradation, corrosion, settlement, or fatigue on transmission line performance Determine adequacy of existing structures under current and projected loading conditions Maintenance Design & Engineering Solutions Develop maintenance-level engineering designs, including structure reinforcements, pole replacements, hardware replacements, and conductor work Prepare calculations, sketches, and work packages suitable for construction and maintenance crews Provide constructability input and outage planning support as required Compliance & Utility Coordination Ensure engineering work complies with applicable codes, regulations, and utility standards Coordinate with asset management, operations, maintenance, and field personnel Support responses to internal audits, regulatory reviews, or asset condition inquiries Provide engineering support during emergency response or storm restoration activities as needed Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline required Coursework or background with a structural emphasis is ideal Experience Minimum 3 years of structural engineering experience required Experience with structural analysis, design development, and incorporating design feedback strongly preferred Background in steel/metal structures, civil/foundation engineering, or any structural discipline is valued Experience supporting construction projects and receiving field or review feedback is a plus Transmission line engineering experience is a bonus but not required — we will provide full training Licensure Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required EIT status or active pursuit of PE licensure is welcomed and supported Technical Skills Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, STAAD, RISA, or similar) preferred Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting tools is helpful Experience with transmission engineering software (PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER) is a plus but not expected — training will be provided Ability to interpret field data and translate findings into practical engineering solutions Working knowledge of structural loading concepts and code-based design Core Competencies Receptive to mentorship, coaching, and continuous learning in a new specialty area Strong communication skills: accessible, responsive, and able to engage clearly with diverse stakeholders Ability to integrate professionally into a client utility environment Ability to work independently with minimal daily managerial oversight Problem-solving mindset with ability to support time-sensitive needs Adaptable to evolving priorities based on client and environmental needs Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a company vehicle to project sites Why Join Us? Launch a career in one of engineering’s most in-demand specialties Transmission line engineers are in short supply. By joining now, you position yourself at the forefront of a field with tremendous long-term opportunity. Work that matters for your community You’ll support a local electric utility — stable, mission-driven work that keeps the lights on for your neighbors. This is infrastructure that matters. Mentorship and real-project training from day one You’ll work alongside experienced transmission engineers who are invested in your growth. Learning here means doing real work on real projects — not sitting in a classroom. Flexibility and work/life balance Hybrid work arrangements combine client office time, field visits, and remote work — adapting to business needs while respecting your life outside of work.
