This role oversees accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, supply chain financial operations, internal controls, and cash management while serving as the financial expert on the Retail Services Executive Team. You will help safeguard university assets, drive operational excellence through data-driven decision making, and support the mission and values of BYU.What You’ll Do In This PositionLeadership of Financial Services Team and Management of Accounting PracticesEnsures qualified accounting employees are hired, trained, and developed; conducts team meetings as necessary and ensures clear communication between team members.Follows generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and ensures timely and accurate financial data is communicated to University Financial Services.Oversees the journaling of all financial and accounting data, ensures University tax policies are adhered to, manages customer open billing accounts and liability risk, and ensures appropriate inventory management and cycle counting practices are utilized.Executive Team Membership Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Retail Services and participates in regularly scheduled Executive Team meetings to review major initiatives and strategies.Provides financial perspective, cash flow insight, and accounting expertise on major strategic and operational activities; evaluates and consults with other college/division managers regarding operational questions and policies.Promotes and teaches protection of university assets, effective internal controls, collaboration between Retail Services teams, and models teamwork and alignment.Conducts Financial and Trend Analysis Using Operational Efficiency Metrics Regularly conducts financial analysis of major expense areas, identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, and works with leadership to develop improvement plans.Communicates cash flow and accrual impacts and utilizes data from various systems to develop and monitor operational metrics.Provides operational and financial trend analysis to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.Administers Annual Budgeting Process Oversees and administers the annual budgeting and allocation process for all Retail Services units.Consults with individual channel and cost center leaders, provides historical data, and conducts analysis to ensure budgets are accurate and communicated to University Financial Services.Administers the annual CNA (Capital Needs Assessment) process and collaborates with the Executive Team to ensure accurate information and organizational needs are communicated.RequiredWhat qualifies you for this role:A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.At least 5 years of general accounting experience or 5 years of public accounting experience, or equivalent.GAAP expertise and strong knowledge of accounting controls, budgeting, inventory management, and financial reporting.PreferredMaster’s degree in Accounting.Seven or more years of retail accounting management experience.Experience with NetSuite and/or Workday ERP Systems, POS systems, capital expenditure budgeting, forecasting, trend analysis and team leadership.What We Offer In ReturnIn addition to our competitive pay structure, this position comes with fantastic benefits, including:401k.
