JOB TITLE: Direct Support ProfessionalCLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Non-ExemptPROGRAM/DEPARTMENT: Community HabilitationIMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Support Services/GuardianshipPOSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for in-home respite for disabled individuals and their families. Provides transportation, supervision, meal preparation, behavior management and participation in activities. Promotes, maintains and/or restores health, and/or minimizes the effects of illness and disabilities. Maintains accurate documentation of services provided including input in the program and/or needs of the people we serve. Responsible for acquiring and maintaining medication administration certification. Treats individuals and their correspondents with the utmost dignity and respect and allows individuals to fully exercise their human rights.QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Education, Training & Experience:Ability and willingness to perform all job functionsPreferred Education, Training & Experience:High School Diploma or equivalentOne (1) year of experience working in the Human Services fieldESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Valid New York State driver’s license that meets the Agency’s driving policyAbility to effectively multi-task in performance of job dutiesEffectively communicates with people we serve, their families, other service providers and agency staffSALARY:$17 per hour starting rateCompany DescriptionIn 2018, two regional chapters of NYSARC joined forces and embarked on a journey to set a new standard for collaboration among agencies serving individuals with disabilities.The two organizations have a rich history—both with the communities they serve and in which they serve, along with their independent brand identities. In identifying a parent brand, all parties worked together to craft a likeness that honors both the heritage of each agency and their combined mission to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.Throughout the brainstorming meetings, one theme prevailed—togetherness. While the process, funding, legislation, and even definition of what it means to serve people with disabilities has changed dramatically over the tenure of our organizations, one thing that has not changed is the commitment to togetherness. Both organizations recognize that, as people, we’re better together—disabilities or not, Olean or Niagara, it doesn’t matter.
