JOBSEARCHER

Senior Data & Integration Engineer

We’re working with a fast-growing BioTech company that is building software to make complex scientific data easier to access, structure and use. They’re looking for a Senior Engineer to join a team working right at the point where software engineering, data engineering and real-world systems integration come together. A lot of the challenge starts much earlier. Data is being generated by specialist equipment and external systems, often in awkward or proprietary formats. The engineering challenge is to reliably capture that information, interpret and structure it, and build the pipelines and applications that make it usable further downstream. You’ll have the opportunity to own problems end-to-end, rather than simply picking up predefined tickets. What you could be working onBuilding Python services and pipelines that ingest and process complex data Developing integrations with external systems and equipment Designing schemas and data models for data that isn’t always clean or standardized Moving data reliably between on-premise environments and the cloud Building APIs and containerized applications around data workflows Working directly with technical and scientific users to understand poorly defined problems and turn them into working solutions Taking ownership from initial requirements and architecture through to production Helping shape engineering approaches as the platform and team continue to scale
What we're looking for: You don't need to tick every box. The strongest candidates will bring a combination of:
  • Strong software engineering skills with Python
  • Experience building production data pipelines, ingestion systems or integrations
  • Good understanding of APIs, data modelling and distributed/data-processing systems
  • Cloud engineering experience, ideally AWS, although other major cloud platforms are relevant
  • Experience with Docker/containerized applications
  • The ability to work across backend software, infrastructure and data rather than staying within one narrow layer
  • Comfort solving ambiguous technical problems without everything being defined upfront
Experience in biotech, pharma, scientific software, laboratory technology or scientific instrumentation would be particularly interesting, but it isn't essential. We're equally interested in excellent engineers from other industries who have worked with complex data, third-party systems, proprietary formats or difficult integration problems and who are genuinely interested in applying that experience to science. Why consider it? The interesting part of this role is the breadth. You could be building a data pipeline one day, digging into an unusual file format or integration problem the next, and then building an application that allows users to actually interact with that data. You'll be joining a technically strong environment where engineers have substantial ownership and where the problems being solved have a tangible impact on how scientific teams work with their data. If you're a Python Engineer, Data Engineer, Integration Engineer or Software Engineer who enjoys building things end-to-end and solving problems where the answer isn't already obvious, I'd be keen to speak.
