Category Development Analyst
THIS IS NOT A JOB AT FORCEBRANDSLocation: San Francisco, CA | 4 days per week onsiteA growing consumer products company is seeking a Category Development Analyst to help drive the performance of its food and snack portfolio in the U.S. market. This role will transform complex consumer, customer, and market data into actionable insights that support sales growth, category strategy, and commercial decision-making.ResponsibilitiesAnalyze consumer behavior, customer performance, digital trends, market share, and key business drivers.Use data visualization and reporting tools to interpret and communicate insights from Nielsen and internal data platforms.Conduct detailed consumption and performance analyses across retailers and channels, including Costco, Amazon, Target, and Kroger.Track market share, point-of-sale performance, pricing trends, volume forecasts, and other drivers of category growth.Support category strategy reviews and translate findings into internal priorities and customer-specific recommendations.Develop SKU and assortment recommendations based on market trends, portfolio gaps, and retailer needs.Prepare detailed business reviews and presentations for internal leadership.Synthesize broad data sets into clear stories, actionable recommendations, and growth strategies.Support commercial planning and execution through the company’s Trade Promotion Management platform.Assist users with promotional planning and analysis, volume forecasting, pricing and terms, and claims matching.Qualifications1–3 years of experience in category management, data analytics, business intelligence, or a related function within the consumer products industry.Experience with syndicated data platforms such as Nielsen, Circana, or SPINS is preferred.Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify meaningful trends and translate findings into practical recommendations.Proficiency in developing clear reports, data visualizations, and business presentations.Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to use data-driven storytelling to influence internal and external stakeholders.Intellectual curiosity, strategic thinking, and the ability to connect broader business objectives with tactical actions.
