Packaging Automation Field TechnicianLocation: New JerseyThe Packaging Automation Field Technician delivers high-quality, customer-facing technical support for packaging automation systems across multiple customer sites. This position is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing company-owned packaging machinery located at customer facilities. The role supports packaging machinery and integrated automation systems to ensure reliable operation, minimal downtime, and high customer satisfaction. Customer sites include packing sheds and food processing facilities. This position requires a highly disciplined and motivated mindset, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute field work while meeting customer and company expectations.Key Position Responsibilities:Provide on-site technical support for automated packaging machinery, including case erectors, tray formers, bliss machines, and other related systemsTroubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, PLC, motor, and control-related issuesPerform preventive maintenance, system inspections, and performance optimization activitiesSupport equipment installations, commissioning, and system upgrades at customer sitesRespond with a high-sense of urgency and in a timely manner when directed by technician leadership or management to travel to customer sites for maintenance issuesTrain customer operators and maintenance personnel on equipment operation, troubleshooting, and best practicesServe as the technical liaison between customers, internal teams, management, and OEM partnersClearly communicate findings, repairs performed, and technical recommendations to technician leadership and managementMaintain accurate, organized documentation of service activities, parts usage, and customer interactionsAssist in a maintenance shop environment to refurbish packaging machinery, as directedFollow all lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety policiesMaintaining a safe work environment at all times and promote safe work practices in customer facilitiesPosition Qualifications and Demands:Experience in packaging automation, industrial maintenance, military maintenance, or graduation from a technical college with a degree in Mechatronics or Industrial MaintenanceFor technical college graduates, the completion of a Pratt internship or apprenticeship is strongly preferredStrong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skillsFamiliarity with PLC-controlled machinery and industrial sensors at a troubleshooting levelAbility to travel extensively and work independently in customer environmentsAbility to multi-task and perform effectively in a fast paced, high-pressure environmentProfessional organizational and communication skills with a customer-first mindsetThe ideal candidate will live in New JerseyAvailability to work weekends and holidays during assigned seasons based on customer demandsAbility to maintain a valid driver's licenseAbility to walk and stand for extended periods on concrete or on uneven surfacesAbility to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to dust, noise, extreme temperature variation, and moving machineryAbility to stand, walk, climb, bend, and work on or around industrial equipment for extended periodsAble to lift and carry tools or equipment weighing up to 50 poundsPositive, can-do attitude with a strong work ethicStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work safely, responsibly, and professionally in customer facilitiesPratt Industries is America's 5th largest paper and packaging company with more than 8,000 highly skilled green collar employees dedicated to the environment and sustainability.
