Truss Designer

Job DescriptionOur client is seeking an experienced Truss Designer to support the design and engineering of structural wood component systems. This role is responsible for creating accurate roof and floor truss designs, interpreting construction drawings, and ensuring designs meet engineering standards, building codes, and manufacturing requirements. The Truss Designer will work closely with sales, production, and customers to ensure projects move efficiently from concept through manufacturing and delivery.Position OverviewThe Truss Designer will prepare engineered layouts and truss placement plans for residential and commercial construction projects. This role requires strong technical design skills, the ability to interpret architectural plans, and close coordination with internal teams to ensure designs are accurate and production-ready. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment where multiple projects must be designed and delivered within tight deadlines while maintaining precision and structural integrity.Key Responsibilities for the Truss DesignerDesign roof and floor truss systems using industry design software such as MiTek, Alpine, or similar platformsInterpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and construction documents to produce accurate truss layoutsEnsure designs meet local building codes, engineering requirements, and structural standardsCollaborate with sales teams to develop design solutions that meet customer specifications and project budgetsPrepare truss placement plans and engineered drawings for manufacturing and installationReview structural loads, spans, and connection requirements to ensure safe and compliant designsWork closely with production teams to ensure designs are efficient and manufacturableCoordinate design revisions with builders, contractors, and internal teams when project changes occurMaintain design documentation and ensure accuracy throughout the project lifecycleAssist with material optimization to improve lumber usage and reduce waste in productionComplete designs within required project timelines to support scheduling and deliveryCommunicate technical information clearly with internal teams and customers Qualifications for the Truss Designer Previous experience in truss design or structural wood component design required Experience using MiTek, Alpine, or similar truss design software. Strong understanding of structural loads, spans, and truss engineering principles Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and construction drawings.
