Urban Planner
Summary of Position:HCM is seeking an Urban Designer / Architect to join our growing planning design studio. Our current list of projects includes community master plans, urban design, development feasibility studies, development entitlements, as well as campus planning. The urban designer position includes carrying out the preparation of site designs and planning documents.About the Position:Lead and contribute to master plans, small area plans, feasibility studies and similar project types.Develop physical design concepts including regulating diagrams and analysis drawingsTranslate zoning and regulatory policy into actionable urban design solutionsPrepare site planning and massing studiesCoordinate internal multidisciplinary teams and external consultantsManage mid-scale projects within larger planning and design effortsEnsure design quality and consistency across project materialsParticipates in public and client presentations.Produce high-quality diagrams, illustrative plans, renderings and presentation materialsCommunicate complex ideas in visually clear and accessible formatsContribute to reports and planning documentationImplement quality control procedures to ensure documents and design standards are met, and that regulatory and site design requirements are addressed. Support thought leadership and firm wide design excellence initiativesContribute to proposals, interviews and marketing effortsActively promotes collaborative and innovative culture.Required Skills and Competencies:Strong commitment to the principles place-making and urbanism.Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp graphic software.Familiarity with zoning codes and land development regulationsAbility to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills.Ability to effectively meet deadlines.Qualifications:Bachelor's or Master's degree in urban design, architecture (preferred) or related field 8-12 years of professional experience in urban design and/or planning. Strong portfolio demonstrating physical planning, site design and urban design graphicsExperience with corridor planning, campus planning, mixed-use redevelopment, or community master planning preferredStrong understanding of the conceptual design of various building types including multi-family housing, retail, office, institutional and academic facilities.Licensure in architecture or similar related field or on-track for licensure.LEED AP or GA is a plus.
