Engineering Intern – Electrical (FW)
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana

Overview
Design Collaborative’s Engineering Intern is an explorer, a sponge, and a team player extraordinaire. Each intern brings a unique discipline‑specific skillset to the table at Design Collaborative. The internship offers real‑life experience of a professional office, project phases and dynamics, and the nuts and bolts of their craft.
Education and Experience
Completion of 1 year of higher education toward a degree in electrical, mechanical, or architectural engineering
Interest in the building design industry (Architectural/Engineering/Construction)
Submission of a resume
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong time‑management and organizational skills while multitasking
Strong written and verbal communication
Attention to detail when handling projects
Experience with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or Adobe Suite is an asset
Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
Responsibilities
Entry‑College Intern
Participate in project design through all stages, including Conceptual Design, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, and Construction Administration
Prepare presentation graphics
Present ideas to contractors verbally
Document existing structures, conduct field surveys, and attend job site visits
Attend client and project team meetings
Contribute fresh ideas to Design Collaborative
Mid‑College Intern
Same responsibilities as the Entry‑College Intern
Preferred: 1+ years of engineering internship experience
Review shop drawing submittals
Understand delivery methods and bidding processes
Adhere to production standards and protocols
Assist with cost estimation
Meet deadlines and prioritize tasks with minimal oversight
Document field surveys of existing buildings
Participate in job‑site visits with experienced team members to understand construction methods
Assist team members with on‑site observations and site reviews
Participate in all project phases from Conceptual Design through Construction Administration
Engage in conversations about design intent and help incorporate it into documents
Manage tasks with regular guidance from the project team
Optional Aptitudes
3D modeling software (SketchUp, Rhino, 3ds Max, Lumion)
3D modeling tools (laser cutters, 3D printers, VR)
Computational design software (Grasshopper, Dynamo)
Programming knowledge (Python, C#)
Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Hand sketching ability
Writing communication skills to assist Marketing Coordinator in writing blogs
Knowledge of sustainability concepts
