Job Title: MRI TechnologistSpecialty: (Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist – DRT, MRI Specialty)Site: VA Long Beach Healthcare System (VALBHS)Location: 5901 E. 7th Street, Long Beach, CA 90822Duration: 1 year contract with the possibility of four 1 year extensionShift ScheduleDay Shift 1: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PMDay Shift 2: 8:00 AM – 6:30 PMEvening Shift: 12:00 PM – 10:30 PMNight Shift: 10:15 PM – 6:45 AMWeekday & Weekend Coverage (including holidays)How Many Shifts Needed Per Month: ~17 shifts/month (based on ~173 hrs/month ÷ ~10 hr shifts)CertificationsCurrent valid ARRT (R) – Radiologic Technologist – requiredAdvanced ARRT in MRI (MR) – requiredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – requiredIV certification – preferred but not requiredEducation: Accredited Radiologic Technology program (per ARRT requirements)Experience NeededMinimum 6 months experience if candidate has specific experience on GE MRI scanner (1.5T or 3.0T), ORMinimum 1 year current work experience in MRI modality if candidate does not have GE MRI scanner experienceSpecial Skills NeededExperience with GE MRI scanner (1.5T or 3.0T) preferredDemonstrated experience starting IV lines and administering contrast injectionsPACS experience preferred; AGFA PACS a plusAbility to independently operate superconductive MRI equipmentMRI safety practices knowledgeAbility to efficiently use computers and technologyResponsibilitiesIndependently operate Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment to perform a variety of complex MRI imaging exams; practice MRI safety at all timesReceive patients, explain procedures, position patients, select and set technical parameters, and set up/adjust accessory equipmentOperate superconductive MRI equipment employing strong magnetic fields and radio waves to acquire images of the entire body (brain, neck, spine, chest, body, extremities)Set up MRI suites ensuring sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters, and all required equipment are present and availablePrepare and administer contrast material intravenously under close supervision of radiologist(s) — not independentlySend images to PACS, archive images, post-process images, and perform case editing of computer requests and reportsMaintain records and enter patient information using the Radiology Vista Package and CPRSMeet or exceed current nationally recognized quality assurance standards (TJC)Comply with all VALBHS policies, procedures, medical staff bylaws, and protocolsParticipate in all VA mandatory training
