Students who are not eligible for FWS are still encouraged to apply, as department funding may be available.Supervisor: John PetersHours Per Week: 3Position Duration: Academic yearLocation: Eide/Dalrymple GalleryApplication Deadline: Open until filledPosition OverviewStudent Gallery Aids assist with monitoring the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery, assisting with changing art exhibitions, and the Permanent Art Collection.Major Areas of ResponsibilityGallery monitor: be a positive liaison with the public, answering basic questions about the art exhibitions, art department and Augustana in general. On occasion, assist with sales of artwork on display and assist with tours of the exhibition and permanent art collection.Exhibition assistant preparator: The student will have the opportunity to learn safe and archival art handling methods and the basics of exhibition layout and design in order to assist with the installation and de-installation of the changing exhibitions. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: cutting mats and framing artwork, hanging artwork, preparing labels and gallery text, assisting with lighting design, assisting with marketing and social media, other duties as assigned.Collection assistant: The student will assist with tasks of cataloguing, archival preservation, and display of the permanent art collection. The student will have the opportunity to be trained in museum cataloguing software, photographing artwork, and archival matting.Working Conditionshave ability to lift, handle, pack, prepare and install art (up to 50 lbs).ability to work for substantial periods of time while standing.have good balance and be comfortable working on a ladder and a lift at ceiling heightRequired Qualificationsability to work well with others, and interact well with public (phone, email, in person)must have great attention to detail, follow directions carefully, and be self-directed and pro-active on short- and long-term gallery tasks.Physical RequirementsAbility to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.Other InformationAll Augustana University employees must know and follow job safety procedures, attend any required health and safety training, proactively promote safety at work and promptly report actual and potential accidents and injuries.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.
