Hardware Validation Engineer - Server & Cloud Infrastructure
Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect within 3D immersive digital experiences. Roblox's mission is to connect a billion people with optimism and civility across any device worldwide.
As a Hardware Engineer on the Infrastructure Foundation Hardware Engineering team, you will help design, develop, and validate next-generation server platforms that power Roblox’s high-performing, reliable, and cost-efficient global data center infrastructure. Working across platform bring-up, firmware qualification, hardware stress testing, fleet integration, and system-level debugging, you will ensure compute, storage, high-speed networking, and GPU systems perform optimally under massive production-scale workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
Hardware Lifecycle & Bring-up: Lead core phases of the hardware development lifecycle, including feasibility studies, initial hardware bring-up, validation, production deployment, and sustaining fleet support.
Platform Performance & Integration: Execute platform integration, system-level debugging, driver tuning, and thermal/power efficiency optimization across large-scale compute environments.
Validation Strategy & Testing: Develop and execute rigorous evaluation, benchmarking, and stress-testing strategies for server platforms to guarantee fleet stability.
Firmware & Fleet Qualification: Support BIOS and BMC firmware qualification, automate firmware deployment, and manage hardware health-monitoring frameworks.
Vendor & Technical Debugging: Collaborate with hardware vendors and SRE/Ops teams to root-cause complex component- and system-level failures across hardware registers, drivers, kernel layers, and bus-level traces.
Site Visits & Deployment: Travel occasionally to vendor sites or data centers to supervise hardware deployments and first-of-a-kind platform builds.
Requirements: Academic & Years of Experience
5+ years of professional experience in hardware engineering, system architecture, or server infrastructure validation.
BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
Technical Capabilities & Tooling
Deep technical understanding of Linux-based server environments, data center architecture, and hardware interfaces ( PCIe, NVMe, Ethernet, InfiniBand, memory subsystems ).
Hands-on experience stress testing and validating CPU, RAM, storage, and high-speed networking subsystems.
Proficiency in Python, Go, or Bash for writing automation scripts, test harnesses, and validation tools.
Strong remote debugging skills, including analyzing kernel logs, hardware registers, and bus-level traces/captures.
Professional Competencies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate hardware limitations into clear engineering requirements for software teams.
Collaborative mindset to work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Data Center Ops, SREs, and external hardware vendors.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience validating and optimizing GPU platforms, AI accelerators, or High-Performance Compute (HPC) systems.
Background in data center automation, hardware health telemetry, and firmware provisioning frameworks.
