Position Overview
A rapidly growing transportation and logistics organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting function and oversee end-to-end financial operations. This role is responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, cash management, budgeting, and compliance. The Controller will partner with executive leadership to provide financial insight, support strategic decision-making, and drive improvements across systems and processes. This position also oversees the accounting team, manages audits, and ensures adherence to GAAP and applicable reporting frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close, Reporting and Controls
Own month-end and year-end close processes
Prepare consolidated financial statements under GAAP/IFRS
Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
Ensure accuracy of accounting transactions
Coordinate external audits and required schedules
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting
Monitor debt levels and covenant compliance
Accounting Operations
Oversee accounting team structure, staffing, and performance
Manage outsourced accounting functions
Oversee subsidiary accounting operations and controls
Direct general ledger, reconciliations, and account analysis
Manage AP, AR, billing, and cash application
Oversee payroll coordination and tax reporting
Administer fixed assets and depreciation schedules
Maintain cost reports and operational metrics
Financial Planning and Analysis
Lead budgeting and forecasting
Prepare variance analysis and performance insights
Recommend benchmarks and KPIs
Produce financial and operating metrics
Support capital investment, pricing, and contract analysis
Treasury and Cash Management
Manage cash flow forecasting and treasury operations
Maintain banking relationships
Oversee bank reconciliations and intercompany accounting
Support risk management and financial safeguards
Systems and Process Improvement
Implement and optimize ERP and financial systems
Lead system upgrades and automation initiatives
Drive process improvements for accuracy and efficiency
Maintain controls and budget frameworks
Leadership and Communication
Develop and mentor accounting staff
Present financial reports to senior leadership
Collaborate cross-functionally to support operations
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
8+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibility
Strong GAAP knowledge; IFRS familiarity preferred
Experience with month-end close and financial reporting
Audit coordination experience
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
Familiarity with AP, AR, billing, payroll, fixed assets, and cost accounting
Cash management and treasury experience
ERP systems proficiency; strong Excel skills
Strong communication and presentation abilities
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
Ability to pass background, MVR, and drug screening
